Fastest ground speed of a stock LS1 F-body?
Just wondering if anyone has stats on what the highest speed an all stock LS1 F-body has hit, with no governor. I remember seeing a video on youtube of a 1997 Camaro SS, LT1 motor...it hit 172MPH. I can't find the video now though, kinda mad about that. I'm fairly certain I heard of the 2002 Camaro SS hitting at least 180MPH. Anyone have any proof or videos for me?

2003 Monte Carlo SS: (I owned one of these) governed at 117MPH, max speed of 130MPH.
2006 Monte Carlo LT: Governed at 113MPH, max speed of 120MPH+.
2009 Pontiac G8 GT: Governed at 137MPH, max speed of 150MPH+.
Many many other cars are governed but can exceed those speeds with the governor removed.

What I need is some professional track tests. People crusing up their interstate or highway, will probably not be the ones hitting 170MPH in a stock car, but I am fairly certain these cars have broken 170MPH, and possibly 180MPH.

A stock ls1 will in NO WAY make it to 180mph. Theres just no ******* way. From all the previous threads that I've read over the years.. No one as talked about a stock ls1 going any faster than 168mph.. These cars arn't all that aerodynamic, and bone stock put down 305-310 at the wheels. Theres no chance of it hitting anything higher than 170mph, at those speeds horse power needs to start raising exponentially to combat the extreme forces slowing you down.
I never went above 155ish in my camaro before I sold it... But it wasn't stock.

180 seems unlikely. i'm sure it can be done with better aerodynamics on the car though. Years ago I got mine pegged at the speed limiter and kept it climbing a little more. Not sure how fast becasue my gauge doesn't go that high is the problem.

these conversations are always funny to me.. The guys over on the CX7 forums believe that their stockish (turbo-back exh/tune) 3500lbs crossovers with low gearing can go well over 150 (putting down a little over 200hp at the wheels) governed at 120.. and none have been past 120 even without the governor... I got a kick out of that. That said.. I had my LT1 camaro at around 165 and it was DONE. it may have gone another mph or two but it was not gaining in any reasonable amount of distance at that point. it was a 94 Z28 M6 3.73 rear end, TDs, headers, TR55's, etc etc, all the usuals. My formula also has no governor and I haven't tried it with GPS clocking active... but per the speedo just a tick past 160 for it as well... again it would go faster, but I don't live near the salt flats

We could figure it out mathematically but that's not really fun lol. I'll look up the equation just for ***** and giggles....weight, aero, power, gearing, rpm and drag coefficient...not sure what else would come into play. Like I said in the other thread I have a hard time believing a STOCK...notice I say stock LS1- Fbody hit 180mph. The drag coefficient for our cars isn't that bad but it isn't great either....maybe it was on a different forum?

On this thread I'm trying to encourage some people to dig in their memories and maybe do a little digging of their own. I accept that I may be wrong...maybe no F-body ever hit 180MPH, maybe it was the LS1 Vette. But I am fairly certain an F-body did. And if I am wrong, and it didn't touch 180MPH, then I'm damn well certain it broke 170MPH.
