Default Any different? 98-02 Camaro SS vs 98-02 Camaro Z28 springs/coils?

I just bought a set of EIBACH Pro Kit lowering springs (rated at 1.2 drop front and rear) and noticed I could not find any that said they were SS specific.

Just wanted to get a view from the experts, were the coils on the Z28 and the SS the same?

Thanks!

There really isn't an aftermarket spring that is SS-specific since they are all designed to work on the Z28, SS, T/A, WS6, and Firewawks.

From the factory, they are not the same, actually. They have different, more agressive spring rates over the Z28 cars but the ride height difference is negligible.

I don't always remember the exact details, but I don't think this is entirely true. Normal SS or WS6 cars I thought had the stock springs, unless it was an SLP. Then early year 1LE cars I think may have had 1LE springs.

I bookmarked the 1LE specs thread from a few years back. I like Sam's response the best:

"1993 1LE's had 1LE front springs, the 32mm front bar, STOCK rear springs and a 21mm bar, 1LE valved deCarbon shocks.

1994-1995 1LE's got 1LE front and rear springs (not stock) the 32mm front bar, but down to a 19mm rear bar, and 1LE spec deCarbon shocks.

1996-1999 1LE's got 1LE springs front and rear, 32/19 bars, Koni DA's.

No 2000 1LE.

2001-02 1LE's were taken over by SLP. They had a hollow 35mm front bar, the 21mm rear, Koni DA's. As best I can tell stock springs.

Up until about mid-2000 some time SS's and WS6's got 1LE springs, after that time they got standard springs."

Hmm, my little info sheet is showing 98+ Z28s with a 291 front and 130-180 rear. The 99+ SS and WS6 has a 300-450 front and 115-185 rear. I'm questioning the accuracy myself now. Either way, some cars did come with a special spring. Those rates are very odd, though.

It's pretty confusing considering some years had some with special and some with stock rates.

My 1999 SS has noticeably stiffer springs then some comparable (especially newer) SS/WS-6 cars. It was also a cloth interior, hardtop, and Auburn rear-end car with AAM rear cover. I bought the car when it was 2 years old, and stock as could be.

SSs did not get different springs unless they were optioned with the $1k Bilstein handling package. If you opted for this package, you got the SLP valved Bilstein shocks and SLP tuned Eibach blue lowering springs. Not all SLP cars got this. This was extra and above and beyond the standard SLP SS conversion.
