Question Its cam time

SO IVE RECENTLY STARTED LOOKING FOR CAMS FOR MY 99 WS6 "LS1". JUST LOOKING TO SEE IF ANYBODY HAS ANY GOOD REFERANCES ON CAMS. I WANT A NIcE AGGRESSIVE CAM THATS GONNA GIVE ME GREAT TOP ENDPOWER AND A REAL NICE SOUND.

ONE OTHER THING I WAS LOOKING INTO WAS THE "LSA" NUMBER ON THE CAMS... IVE RESEARCHED AND NOTICED THAT THE STOCK CAM I HAVE HAS A 116LSA. IVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE BEST FOR THE LS1 IS 112LSA. IS THIS TRUE AND WHAT DOES THIS LSA NUMBER REPRESENT?

STOCK CAM : 202/210 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
0.496" / 0.496" int/exh lift
116 LSA

CAM I HAVE IN MIND "SO FAR" : 243/251 int/exh Lift Int. .624 Exh. .624 LSA 114° BY COMP CAMS

It's really vague to say "I WANT A NIcE AGGRESSIVE CAM THATS GONNA GIVE ME GREAT TOP ENDPOWER AND A REAL NICE SOUND." I would figure out how much power you want to make and then do some research and figure out what needs to done to achieve it. There is A LOT of good info on this site!

And with a cam that big although Im sure there are people who drive cams like that on the street, to most people that is not a DD cam that you will wanna drive everyday.

That cam is way too big for a 346, the cam you described sounds just like mine. 230/234 .600/.601 111lsa it pulls really hard after 4k rpm and has a great idle.

theres no need to yell here. number one, that cam is wayyyy to big and your car will fall on its face when you punch it. number two. be descriptive, how much power are you looking for. number three, you will need more than a cam, heads are recommended, and a stall is definitly needed. number four, lsa is up to you and what you want out of it. 112 is a recommended lsa but again its up to what you want.

for example if you want a car with 420rwhp then buy a set of heads, (stage 2 5.3 heads or stage 2 ls6 heads) and match them with a 224/224 583" lift cam or a 228/228 583'' lift cam. this will get you there. with cams the biggest cam is not the best. that cam you are looking at is more for stroked motors with larger displacement, and that cam will have horrible driveabilty issues. the 228 seires cam is excellent driveabilty with nice increase in power. if 420rwhp is not enough for you then buy a set of heads and go turbo.

oh by the way the slp "400 hp package" yeilds no where close to 400 hp. waste of money and all its components could be bought elsewhere for better quality for cheaper. plus slp headers have horrible fitment. in the future avoid any so called performance package

Cool

OK SO AFTER WHAT IVE HEARD AND LEARN THUS FAR I PUT TOGETHER A FEW THINGS THINGS LIKE "YOU" ALL HAVE SAID. LET ME KNOW IF ITS ALL GONNA WORK OUT. AND THAT 420HP WEEELLLLL... I WOULD LOVE TO SEE 500HP ALL MOTOR EVENTUALLY.

CAM - Duration: 228 Intake/232 Exhaust on a 112LSA at .050 Inch Lift //Lift: .600" Intake/.600" Exhaust

HEADS - LS1 Patriot LS6 "Style" 5.7L Stage II Heads
Available with 59cc or 64cc chambers and/or 2.02" or 2.055" Intake Valve size.
IS THIS CC AND INTAKE VALVE SIZE JUST A PREFERANCE? AND WITH THESE HEADS AM I GONNA NEED NEW INNERS CUZ IM SURE I CANT USE THE STOCK RODS AND SPRINGS AND ALL THAT?

INTAKE MANIFOLD / TB - GM Performance LS6 Intake Manifold / 85MMTB

LONG TUBES - Pacesetter 1-3/4" Long Tube Headers (w/emissions)

Sigh. oh dear.

ok looks like you chose the streetsweeper cam. ok good choice.

yes the heads will need new internals. re-using the rods and springs is asking for valvetrain failure.

go here--http://www.texas-speed.com/c-47-cylinder-heads.aspx

pick a set of heads. if you want the stage 2 5.3 ( to answer your next question yes they will fit), just buy them from texas speed and they will come fully assembled. next buy a ls6 oil pump, can be found on this same site, buy a st of comp lifters, also found on this site, and buy an ls2 timing chain. also found on this site. next push rods. 7.4 length and yes also on this site. you will need all these things. texas speed offers heads and cam packages, where you select a cam and a set of heads and they will throw in rods and an oil pump and timing chain and its cheaper than buying seperate. all you would need after is lifters. only thing is they dont offer the streetsweeper cam in the package, but youd be happy with a 228/228 on 112 lsa, which is an option for the package. trust me. oh and dont forget gaskets. i recommend roller rockers (harland sharp or yella terra 1.7 ratio only) but its up to you.

Buy the best heads you can afford, it will make it well above average, average, or sub par.

A nice set of heads with a crap cam will make a killer setup. A nice cam with a crap set of heads will make a crap set up.

AFR 205's and 210's are the best IMO for his cam application. but some ppl dont have that kind of money, so the stage 2 5.3's are a good second IMO as well. correct me if im wrong but ive seen good gains from these and the
ls6 heads

email texas speed on what you want and they will set you up with options and recommend what others have done and works. but, again if you have the money, def go AFR. best heads out there. 1600 for the 210's race ready package. yeah its more but like lemons said this is heads a major thing with these cars, you will get what you pay for.

2.5s are roughly 1400$ iirc.. You can get a cleaned up set of 205s used/new for 1600-1700$ shipped all day.barely more for a way better head.

exactly. for my heads/cam swap im going afr. only thing now is to choose between 205 and 210. they offer a race ready package for the assembled 210 heads for 1600 bucks. main thing here is spend the extra on the heads. you wont regret it, like lemons said you can have a great cam and shitty heads and have a shitty car. but a baby cam with a great set of heads, great car and the heads will really wake that cam up no matter what it is. ( just dont expect 400rwhp out of a 220/220 with a set of afr heads lol, need a bigger cam than that)

Actually, with supporting bolt ons there is no reason a 220 cam couldn't make 400.

Check out tony mamos "blue pill" package.
