same old 5.3L question
I will ge getting a 07 tahoe 5.3L with 100k miles on it. I am putting it into a 88 mcss, replacing a 355. I want to swap to the comp cam thumper cam...int. 563/exh 546 lift. and use pacesetter 1 3/4 16 gauge 3/8 flange headers. keeping it fuel injected and using stock heads, what would be a good performance prom mod for the ecm for a little extra hp?...thanks

#1 dont use a thumper cam, theyre great for sound not power.
#2 we dont have proms and there is no universal tune for your application, youll need to take the car to a dyno shop after its running and get a real time tune using hp tuners or efi live.

tks for the replies. well it will be a street driven car, but not a daliy driver it is mostly a show car. but I would like to have a little more HP/TQ just for fun. the monte is a manual t5 tranny. I have 3.73 posi rearend gears. if I don't use the thrumper cam, I would like to swap out the stock for a slightly rough idle cam. it might see the strip occassionally, but not every weekend. would like to see between 425-450 rwhp.

how would an MS4 cam and either ported 5.3 heads or ls6 heads do on a 5.3 with either an ls1,ls6 or ls3 intake? (i dont feel like dishing out $900 for a fast intake)i plan on putting a 5.3 in my 88 monte ss too and would like the motor to make decent power n/a before i turbo it

well I guess I could always go the carb'ed version with the 5.3, and get bout 435hp out of it. but I would rather keep it fuel injected. so how would this combo do....stock 5.3 heads, midlength PS headers, and a good slightly rough cam, say in the mid....425-475 lift work. I know a stock 5.3 puts out 295hp, so with the cam and headers if I can get close to 400hp that would be good...

This ain't your typical 350....the stock cams are almost 500 lift so why would you want a 475 lift cam?. Also ill point out an ls3 intake will not work with 5.3 heads. An ms4 is also about too big for a 5.7 let alone a 5.3...figure out what heads and intake....etc you want then have a custom cam ground for it.
