So I am confused as to what turbo to move up to....Help please
Well Let me start out by saying my current setup is a forged bottom end 370 with stock 317's. Speed inc TU1 cam truck manifold kit with a TC78. Car is running about 12lbs on the street and I haven't turned it up yet at the track. Transmission is a built th400 with a RMVB and TB. The rear is a MWC fab 9 with a 3.5 gear, spool, 35 spline axles and stock rear brakes for now. I have a 28" MT ET radial out back.
I am building a T6 modified truck manifold kit right now and am so torn between the many many options out there. I am looking at a budget of about 1600 for the turbo. I am looking at the S480, GT91, 4788 etc. I am torn as to what turbo can get me to my goal of 9.0x in the 1/4 at a weight of about 36-3800 (guess as of right now before it goes on a diet).
So who recommends what turbo and why?
Thanks

a gt4788 is rated to 1500HP so i would say it's more than you will need to get to that 9.0 @ 3600#'s! i just picked up 1 from a reputable private seller with a handful of 1/8 mile passes that looks brand new all over and a coated hot side for $1300. there's deals out there but the s91 is a great budget turbo. you can do an s88 and run deep 8's too and have a bit better spool.

There is a used s88 in the for sale section with a recent rebuild for $1150. The bw stuff has a 96 mm turbine and will not spool quicker than a gt 4788. The bw s88 will have a little less back pressure though. Another option is the gt 50 series units. They are the same frame as the gt 47 but with a bigger turbine wheel.

Personally I think the billet 82/96 in a 1.32 would be perfect for what you want to do. If you go a little bigger on the compressor like an S88 then go a little bigger on the turbine too like the GTV-88 with the 88mm compressor and 99m turbine which is the custom turbo I was talking about in the above sentence, but it is 2300 which is well above what you wanted to do. Also if you go a little bigger tighten the a/r up also.

Here is some good threads to check out, keep your goals in mind. The GT 4788 is rated to 140lbs/min (1400hp) and uses a 92mm UHP wheel which is Garrett's newest design turbine wheel, it spools awesome. Sure you could throw on a bigger, badder more expensive 1500hp + turbo, but why unless you plan to use it all. If you're not using everything from the turbo the only thing you gain by going bigger is lag / spool.
I know it's a lot of links but you will find some good info from people who have actually ran these turbos.
