I'd think it's the same as changing the pistons on any engine?
You gota take the thing apart?
Put the engine on a stand, take off the oil pan, unbolt the crank and rods, and take the bottom end apart.

Yes I know I have to take it apart, I would think I would have to hole the cylinders, what about balancing the assembly, do I have to do that?

How many miles are on it? I'd hone and balance. It's really not that expensive, cheap insurance.

Definitely have to balance, and it is very much recommended you do a hone to match the bore with the new pistons. You never know what shape your current liners are in and just throwing in some new pistons/rings is just asking for sealing trouble.

That's about it though.

54,000 miles on it....earlier post said hole when I ment hone lol....Thanx for the responses, how much do you think a hone, piston install on the rods and a balance would cost? What piston is good for this....thought about a forged piston with valve reliefs, my cam I'm putting in is a EPS 226/234 .598/.601 lobe sep is 113. Reason I am thinking about it is I am putting 243 heads on it and want to mill them to get more compression....worried about piston to valve clearence

Why are you wanting to install forged pistons in an iron block for an N/A application? That would be a waste of money IMO.

Advanced Induction can port a set of 243's to match your camshaft / goals that will have plenty of compression with a stock LQ4 piston and plenty of PTV clearance.

I would not waste your money changing pistons unless you planned to go with a large power adder.

i have AI 243s on my LQ4 and im right at 10.8.1 with a stock mls .051 gaskets and heads milled to 60cc with no ptv problems with a 226/230 605/600 111lsa cam
