Turbo 5.3 rear gears
I'm building a budget turbo 5.3 swapped s10 and am to the point of doing the rear end. It has a th350 with a ptc 3000 stall and should rev to around 6200 or so. I will be running a 28" tall rear tire. I'm aiming for around a 2800 or lower race weight... I'm going to be using a modified Ford 8.8 out of an Explorer so am limited to either 3.27, 3.55, or 3.73 gears. What would be the best choice of the three?

Playing with various calculators on the web and estimating (guessing) around 10% slip it ends up between the 3.55 and the 3.73...
It is waaaay easier to find a 3.73 rear with a locker than a 3.55. The closest place that has a 3.55 locker is 130 miles away
I have always read that turbo cars like less gear, and it would most likely be easier to get a nose heavy s10 to hook on the trans brake with 3.55s.
So would it be worth the drive to get the 3.55s or should I just run the 3.73s and see what it does?

Id go with the 3.55s, if for some reason its a pooch on the hit then Id up the boost and get more aggressive with the tune before Id change to 3.73s. If you feel you still need more gear then swap later. gears are inexpensive

i have 3.55s and 3.73s f/s if interested. i run 3.27s in my 8.8 i was going to go to 3.55s because i do more 1/8th mile racing but also a lot of street driving. so the 3.27 and 28s do the best out on the street. i use a th400 trans too.
just a thought, you will end up wanting more power then 550 wheel. you could spin higher the 6200 rpms. i think you will go faster then 135 mph if you hit your 1st target goal, tires grow and ptc converters are top notch so you will porb have less then 10% slip (i have one my self)
go 3.55s
