Default Thinking about turbo but need to keep A/C.

From what I've read through searching I can use a C6 manifold on the passenger side and be able to keep my A/C system. Does anyone have pics of this? Other suggestions?

I live in SW FL. and its hot as F$%k here during the summer so I gotta have my A/C.

I have a c6 manifold type kit that keeps ac. The trick is in the fans. how big of a turbo are you going with?

It can be done with the C6 manifold setup. You'll need the BMR "turbo" K member (KM013, I believe). Here's a few pics of how my plumbing was routed to account for the compressor. I wanted to keep the stock radiator/condenser location (vs doing the "vertical" radiator) but that made it a little more difficult and I may have lost some ground clearance because the turbo has to be placed kind of low...the bottom of the plumbing is about even with the oil pan, maybe a hair lower. The size of your turbo will probably be the deciding factor whether or not you'll fit with the stock radiator location (I am using a TC78). I used Derale 11.75" pusher fans, which flow 2100 CFM each.

Do you have any more pictures showing your downpipe routing?

Thats exactly what I have. I swapped out the tc78 for a larger comp turbo and had to get the griffin radiator and stand it up. I've gone threw countless fan setup ups and none have worked well with the ac on in traffic. My latest fan setup are pullers off a 2001 saab 93 turbo. They fit almost perfect and are factory shrouded. No summer testing yet.

Here's some more pics if you didn't catch them in my build thread.

The angle I took the pic from makes an optical illusion of the plumbing hanging too low - it doesn't...about flush with the bottom of the oil pan

Better shot of the downpipe

Tucked in relatively close to the balancer

If you plan to do the fab work yourself, the only advice I can offer you that I'd do differently is to build it in the car, if possible. I did my fabrication with the engine on a stand, with the K member and steering rack installed, but I think I could "tighten the fitment up" a bit if I had perspective where everything would be when in the car.

Hey ego462 is there enough room to run a 4 inch down pipe where u ran yours? I'm trying to keep A/C and run a GT-88 turbo.

If keeping ac and the stock kmember you can run frontward facing headers from stainless works. Just throwing that out there as an option.

Should be able to...I've heard up to 5" with that kmember but I think that would be pretty tight if you have to go out the drivers side and account for the steering linkage.

You can also contact Josh Powers and get one of his a/c brackets. I bought one for my custom LS1 swap- they are top notch. It uses the R4 radial type compressor and mounts it up high on the passenger side. Hood clearance should not be an issue on most applications. The lines will have to be re-done to make it work, but that is a small task if you are building a custom turbo kit. You will have plenty of clearance for a down pipe where the stock compressor currently lives.

Quick Reply: Thinking about turbo but need to keep A/C.
