Default Help me build a bottom end

Hey guys,

Being a new guy to this whole Ls ordeal I have come learned a ton of information off this site. After reading through the stock bottom end sticky I am very impressed with what these engines will handle. My plan is to build a procharged smallblock. I would like some input on a few things.

First things first:

80 Z28 Back half
Calvert split mono leafs
Cal Tracs
Calvert adj shocks

Moser M9
35 spline axles
Strange iron race center section

TH400

I will be using an LQ4 block
Stock crank
I will be calling Steve Morris for a cam
Rods and pistons are my real question so far, how much will the stock rods handle?

If anything I would like to replace the pistons and rings to achieve a bit better compression ratio and to make sure they're up to par. What would you go with?

My goal is to make around the 800RWHP mark with a Dsc1 or F1 procharger.

I'm also open to opinions on heads as well lol

Callies compstar H beam rods and weisco or diamond pistons....that's what I just had built and it didn't break the bank. I hope to make 850+ wheel when I turn the boost up to kill.

Also, people will say run a aftermarket head as opposed to a factory casting. I know they are better but I couldn't justify the extra 1500+ on heads right now.

I use to own a 80 Camaro and there is a ton of room under the hood. You could easily make a turbo kit with truck manifolds and possibly save money compared to buying a procharger kit.

Hmmmmm I had assumed I could do the procharger cheaper, I haven't really looked into turbo all tha much. Are you using the stock lifters and head hardware?

K1 H-beam rods(they come with ARP 2000 rod bolts), Weisco 2618 forged pistons, a set of L92s, ls7 lifters and better valve springs. Of course your gonna want to use ARP studs and MLS gaskets.

Would it be better to go with an LQ9 since the connecting rods are apparently better?

I'm selling a bad **** shortblock with 6.0 iron block, stock crank, Oliver billet rods/L19 bolts, -18cc Wiseco pistons with thermal barrier tops, Trend Perf HD wrist pins, doweled main caps, ACL coated bearings, professionally machined/assembled. Zero miles on a fresh build. 364ci $3800 plus shipping good for 1000hp+

search for my name in the classifieds section. You can't build it for cheaper by a long shot.
