Default What is this sound

I hear this sound , i can't really describe it. When i am accelerating through like 1st and 2nd. Once i hit anywhere between 2k and 2.5k rpms, it makes a weird sound. Can't really tell if it is from the exhaust or motor. Once the rpms get past that it stops. Any ideas.

You're going to need to give us more info on the sound - buzz, hum, drone, rattle, etc. Any gear, accelerating, decelerating, cruising, hot cold, etc.

have you ever heard a pick up truck with s et of glasspack mufflers in it? it has kind of a metallic rattling sound, almost like a hint of fart can in there. if thats the kind of sound you are getting its probably rasp. also check aroudn the i pipe where it meets the Y pipe (right behind your passenger seat under the car), look for a black spot on the metal and/or water dripping out of it. could have an exhaust leak that is making a putter put kind of sound maybe, just giving you possibilities.

another question...doyou dislike this sound its making or are you just wonderign what it is just to make sure nothing is wrong?

I'm hoping it is only rasp. I will look for a leak tomorrow. I really don't like the sound and yeah wanted to make sure nothing is wrong.

Once i hit anywhere between 2k and 2.5k rpms,
I have LT headers and SLP loudmouth so every exhaust sound is magnified. The RPM range you listed is the most god awful range in my car. For daily driving I have to short shift and sometimes skip a few gears to avoid that particular RPM range. I have to say that you are probably just describing RASP.

Yeah, the longer i stay in that range, the longer i hear it. I usually just put the pedal down faster so i get through that range quicker or don't let the rpms get there at all. LOL. Man i hope its not a leak or anything.

You're describing RASP.. I just got my LT's, ORY, and Rumbler installed.. At idle I love it. and the low RPM's are nice, but when I get to 2k-2.5k... It sounds like a damn wet fart. I'm thinking of adding a BORLA to my setup..

Is it an exhaust noise. I ask because I noticed that the spring underneath the passenger seat vibrated at the same rpm's making a strange noise in my car. Not to mention the short shifters (if you have them) can let though some strange noises. Just a thought.

I actually looked at how to fix this on that link. It doesnt seem that hard. He explains it pretty well. The only problem is that he says to replace the check valve. I doubt i could figure that out.

No need to replace the Check Valve just do the Restictor Mod!

I had this same issue when I had my SS Camaro and I called the Company I bought them from----They sent me out these Restrictor plates FREE!

I would recommend contacting your Vendor FIRST!

So basically once i get the restrictor plates. I unbolt the two bolts. Clean the old gaskets off. Put the restrictor plate in between two new gaskets, then bolt it back up and thats it? Sounds too easy. My luck i would screw something else up.

So basically once i get the restrictor plates made or sent to me. I just unbolt the two bolts of the flange. Remove the old gaskets. Then slip the restrictor plate in between two new gaskets , then screw the bolts back in? Sounds too easy. I would probably mess something else up.
