You may want to get on with an agency, most major companies rarely hire direct. If you go through an agency you may be bounced around a bit until a company likes your work enough to offer you a permanent position.
We 90% of the time go through an agency that way we can feel out the worker and check out how they work if we don't like it or they mess up they can be fired on the spot with no repercussions since they are from an agency. After 3months or so, depending on the agency and company you may be offered a permanent job with the company if they like your work and how you carry yourself.
When I get back to the office next week, I'll send you our contact at one of the major agencies and hopefully he can help you out.
Good luck amigo

I was looking at doing the same thing through lonestar. I know you haven't found a job yet but do you feel that the lonestar courses were worth the time spent? Let us know how it goes on the job hunt. I just told att to go to hell and am looking for a new gig myself.

Thanks everyone much appreciated!
Jankes- classes were great! First two classes were somewhat boring drawing in 2d but it's more about understanding cad, then when you get to 3d it gets fun!
If you go through lone star, sign up for Daniel whalen, he's fast but highly recommended!

Stay in school as long as you can and learn Solidworks and Cadworks. Most companies these days work off of live models and you will go much further knowing them up front. It also usually helps if you are either an immigrant who is disabled and gay or a democrat. Either will land more hiring pity!

OP, I'm a laidoff Architect, who has known ACAD since ACAD R12 back in the middle to late 90's. Learn REVIT!!! That is the way the design profession is going. Of course, I'm in the Catch-22 because I have no REVIT experience, but I also can't drop $6000 for the program either.
Also: Solidworks, 3D Studio Max, Photoshop, Illustrator, In-design...LEARN THEM ALL!!!
actually, anymore: a white, middle class, straight, republican is the minority in TX these days. thats what could really payoff!!!

I have worked for 3 manufacturing companies, 2 of them relied solely on SolidWorks for all of their modeling, while the other relied solely on MasterCam because they were a CNC machine shop.
The first one I worked at used AutoCad for a long time, but made the switch back in 2005 or so.
