Default My first upgrade?

Hello everyone, I have a 2000 Trans Am WS6 which is completely stock except for the catback, what would be the best thing to do first? Get a tuner? Headers? Lid? Or what? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Aaron.

Lid is the cheapest. There is no real wrong way to start as far as bolt ons. Lid, headers and y-pipe, suspension mods would all be good places to start. My car came with a catback as well and I did an SLP lid, ARH headers and y-pipe, poly motor mounts, and I have lower control arms to install and I think subframe connectors will be next. If you have an Automatic also consider a higher stall torque converter (tranny cooler is a must with that) or a good set of tires

Sorry, I forgot to put that, yes it is an automatic. Thanks for the info. What about a tuner/programmer?

Not really worth it. Taking the car or sending the PCM out for a mail tune will provide a lot more functionality for changes than a handheld programmer will give you. For mail tunes I suggest Frost (www.tunedbyfrost.com) which are $150 (a lot cheaper than a programmer) or full dyno tunes find a reputable shop near you or look up a sponsor on here in your area that can help out.

Actually I just thought of a question for mod order. I just installed my longtube headers...are those going to have to be removed in order to change the converter when I buy mine in the Summer/Fall?

Nope, you have to drop the y-pipe but the headers stay in place.

To the OP: I would do a convertor first, then headers, ORY and lid.

OP, keep in mind with a converter you WILL need a tranny cooler...and you'll need new tires also

O/R Y + LT's is what I would do next. I'd save the Lid for a little later on, it just doesn't really do enough to make it a "must have" item, that's just my opinion though, many may feel different.

No way the lid is like a rite of passage! It must be done first!

Wow, thanks for all the responses. But I do have another question, everyone keeps talking about a y-pipe, I thought that an x-pipe was better. So which is the way to go?

Shocks - something that will make a difference at any speed.

X pipes are for true dual set ups. Our cars have single exhaust so it uses a Y. You can put true duals on your car but for stock internals your not going to notice a difference other than sound. I would do the free mods with a stall and a tune. Then shocks, lid, longtubes, and ory.

Oh ok, so doesn't my car have a y-pipe now? If so what is the upgrade to the y-pipe?

yes cars have a y-pipe stock, but a new y-pipe will be larger diameter, better material, and a lot better flowing.
