PCV delete, Breathers
deleted the PCV system and now i am running a breather on the front of passanger side valve cover and a breather on the rear of driverside valve cover. Cant help but notice that the breathers expell a slight bit of smoke and soot... other guys with breathers does your engine bay get really dirty from running with breathers?

imo i wouldnt run without a pcv system. right now your crankcase is building pressure that is expelled when a piston moves down in the cylinder causing drag and loss of power. with a proper pcv system a vacuum condition is formed in the crankcase and actually helps pull the piston down the cylinder. plus all those gases you see coming out now will be elliminated with a pcv system. if the worry of getting oil in the intake is why you deleted the pcv then i would look into a proper catch can and install it along with the pcv system.

Just a side note to the above posted info, under WOT you don't have vacuum either so I wouldn't say you are loosing power because you lack vacuum but either way, it's just a bad idea to not run a PCV.
PCV pulls out harmful gasses and condensation.
OP look at your oil cap in a month or so and tell us if it looks like penut butter on the bottom. Our cars are bad enough about doing that with a PCV, much less without. Every winter the board goes rampant with "what's this goo on my oil cap"

Factory applications have to vent that to the intake manifold so built up gasses are burnt off by the engine, can't vent gasses to atmosphere that would be illegal as far as smog/emission laws go.
But the vacuum also sucks out all those gasses and also very importantly sucks out condensation, water in oil is bad.

Breathers vent the crankcase yes, that's why your engine bay is nasty, an oil filled engine is building pressure and blowing out built up gasses and oil through the filters.

Get a catch can, F body pcv system suck horribly as it is, but the catch can keeps the oil out of the intake/air-fuel mixture in the engine that can cause detonation. I gotta run, there are tons and tons of threads about pcv systems on here. Search around and see what you come up with.

Run breathers on FI setups, not NA. The LS6 with a catch can setup is the best you can get, if you have a normal LS1 setup running a dual catch can with a truck PCV would be your best bet. Redoing the LS1 PCV with new tubing and the catch cans is 200 bucks

Is it a bad idea to set up our cars pcv like the trucks? With the pcv valve in the driver side valve cover. Cap the passenger side rear port and keep the fresh air hose. Is that enough flow for the ls1 over the 4.8 and 5.3?

Because the PCV System is a Good thing and people think they have a better idea by removing parts from the car that are necessary. I have my PCV for 290,000 miles now and have had no problems. I even put a oil separator that I got from my job just to check and see how much oil is being drawn into my intake. I drive 3,000 miles and come up with maybe 2 teaspoonfuls. Your crankcase Needs to Breath, don't chock it off. Some people just like to spend money on things they think they need. My 1964 Chevelle SS had a PCV in it. They've been around a long time and everyone uses them so why Rip it out???
