driveshaft to pinion plate bolts
hey guys, ive got a little issue at my hands here. i just recently put a .600 lift 224r comp cam and a mcleod twin disc into my 04. now, everytime i launch, i either shear the bolts for the drive shaft to pinion plate( one piece driveshaft from the driveshaft shop) or i snap the cv's. ive done some research, ive seen aviation grade bolts? is that necessary? and also all ive found for the axles are 1000hp axles for $1200, are there any other options?
thanks in advance for the help.

I would contact the drive shaft shop and ask them why their DS can handle a cammed LS1. They may have some hardened bolts for cammed applications. Also, if you don't need the 1000hp, you can get a set of aftermarket axles for about half the price. Or, even 05/06 axles, which are a little stronger than the 04s.

Loose or not would make a big difference. Loose just the bolts are holding it. Tight the friction of the two pieces hold it. Bolts snapping are extremely unusual with even very high HP cars with very quick 60s. Something else is wrong here, install, wheelhop, something.

off the top of my head right now, im not sure about my 60's. i havent ran the new set up at the track yet. my 1/4 before the cam with 150shot nitrous was a 12.2. theyre grade 8 bolts. and this is on street tires....275/55/17 bfg gforce sports. the wheel hop is horrendous, but thats my axle problem. i checked out gforce and found nice anti hop axles that im gonna pick up. stage 1s should be fine. but this is the second time my driveshaft bolts broke.
and sorry about the delay response, ive been insanely busy latley...

imo if you had wheel hop, which is a very violent thing to occur, then that is what caused the bolts to break. wheelhop is caused by tire spin. upgrade to a better drag radial like a mickey or hoosier and i would be doing some drag bags and/or harrop differential cover. there is many more upgrades that can be done to the suspension that will help eliminate wheelhop also

Grade 10.9 would be more appropriate and wheel hop will kill just about anything. The problem on the street is if you can spin you can wheel hop. If the tires don't they won't. Tires, shocks, springs, bags, bushings, solid drive shaft, Harrop cover and differing diameter half shafts are all partial solutions that need to be mixed or matched for good results

I run the DSS shop, driveshaft and stubs with axles also my 8.8 center is a Hendrix with over a 1,000 hp to the rear wheels and the GTO does a 1.40 60 foot times the Top 3 guys run the DSS parts or Hendrix parts...
