Default are both head gaskets the same on 98 LS1

hey, I have a stock 98 LS1 that I pulled the head off of. I went to vic hubbard to get head gaskets and they gave me 2. When I put them on the block one side has "front" that points forward, the other has "front" but it points to the rear.

Dose the driver side take a diff gasket pass?

Flip it over. Front always goes on the front of the engine.

doesnt those heads have a notch on the underside that require a specific headgasket direction per side?

front means front whether or not you flip it over.

You don't have a choice, if he just turns it around it will be upside down. It has to be flipped over.

This is exactly what I need to know. So it will not matter if the gasket is flipped over?? Do they sale a left and right handed gasket?

I don't think all the holes line up when upside down.

I will take pix of what I'm doing when I get home.

See the holes don't line up when the gasket is on rite side up...

But they line up fine when its upside down

Is there any harm in installing this way? Or is there a proper gasket that I need to get?

If they are graphite gaskets, they are side specific. Check the head you pulled, along the edge there may or may not be a recessed area. If you HAVE the recessed area, you need the graphite gaskets (which are side specific). If you DO NOT have the recessed area, you can use the mls gasket (which are NOT side specific).
