road race cam suggestions
I'm finishing up my LS1 swap into my 67 Camaro that will be used primarly for HPDE's and Autox duty, My friends have just about talked me into a cam swap while I have easy access to do so. What you guys suggest for Road Race Duty? 2500 to 6000 rpm? The motor is a 2000 LS1 with an LS6 intake, Headers, emissions deleted, ported TB and it has 241 heads that have not been touched I assume. The motor has 112K on it now, not looking to spend a bunch of money, just swap in a new stick and put it back together. What spec cam would work the best with those simple mods? I have fuel upgrades too, Walboro 255 pump, adj regulator and high flow fuel rails. I assume the injectors are still the stockers at 26lbs, but I'm not against changing those out.
Forgot to mention that its backed up with a ST10 4speed tranny and a corvette IRS with 2.59 gears (I think) from a 96 auto C4.

With a 2.59 rear and your minor modifications I am thinking small is good.
Probably want an approx. 114LSA for it to idle
I would call Patrick "G" and have him spec a cam for you. He did one for my road race Vette and it worked just as planned for my application. Most cost effective $25 I have spent on a race car.
Geoff at EPS is also great.

Well, I'm looking at a MS3 cam and .650 springs from Patriot. Almost the same combo as we put into my son's car. He has ported 243's and I have stock 241's. The 1st gen will be around 3K at racing weight and will have a manual trans. Drivability is not a huge concern because this will be a track autox car and not a DD. I'm looking for Peak tourqe in the midrange pulling hard up to about 55k or better.
How do I get in touch with Pat G?

i'm looking for a road race cam as well. anybody know if the Vengence racing VRX4 cam might be a good candidate? I need something with good street manners as well. Specs are: 228/230 .588/.592 112 LSA

I have the VRX4 cam in a crate LS6 stuffed into a 944 turbo race car. At the bare minimum I would put in new rod bolts. My craigslist Ls1 motor lasted 20 minutes before throwing 2 rods. Also beware of the issue with sweeping left handers causing transient oil starvation. Many racers recommend running Accusumps

I will say this though, that cam gives some great power. I was able to stay on the tail of a Porsche GT2RS down the front straight of Texas World Speedway. That is a $250k top of the line Porsche street/track car that is rated at 620hp. I was hitting 155mph at the end of the straight with no problem. For comparison, I have a 700+ awhp 911 turbo that hits 160+ on the same stretch. My 911 weighs 3500lbs, the 944 with LS6 is probably around 2500-2600 lbs

Does the ASA cam need ported heads or higher compression ratio to fully utilize it's potential?
I see GMPP lists 2 CNC ported LS6 heads along with the GM Hot Cam and Showroom stock cam.
Does anyone have experience with any combination of these in road coarse application?
