Default Iron Block LS1 is here!

To all the nonbelievers...see Summit Jan.-Feb 2012 Catalog PG. 315 or goto website and enter part# 150105 !

You can get a 4.030" bore iron block LS1 for $749.95 and delivered to your door via truck for another $149 ! I am guessing since they are "seasoned", they were once 5.3L truck engines.
Look at what all comes with it.
"The LS engine design has incredible potential, but once you start bolting on big superchargers, an aluminum block just can't contain all that power. These Summit iron LS blocks have all the same potential, but the cast iron construction is capable of withstanding high horsepower applications. These seasoned blocks feature a finished 4.030 in. bore and a 9.240 in. high deck. They feature 6-bolt main caps and a 1-piece rear main seal, and include cam bearings and freeze plugs."

A 4.030 is a .030" over 6.0L truck block, not a 5.3L block

I know this...I assumed they were boring 5.3L blocks out to the 4.030" since ive heard of some 5.3L's having enough wall on them for it.

so basically all you need is heads and cam and swap accesories and intake and your done with the build to transplant it in your car?

Doesnt sound like a bad deal huh? Get a 4.030" bore that all the jack-offs want everyone to get for about the same price of obtaining and boring a 5.3L to ls1 std spec 3.898" with cam bearings installed and freeze plugs.

I. Got a ls3 short block for 150 cause they guy thought at the junkyard it was a old motor.came out of a 07 vette. Only had a few miles got totaled.

Without a sleeve I see no way of making a 5.3 hit 4" bore

Well you still need a full rotating assembly, that's just a bare block.

Well you still need a full rotating assembly, that's just a bare block.
Some have supposedly bored the 5.3L to 4" bore without overheating......

You will need a full rotating assembly with ANY engine so that point is moot. Even a used 5.3L will the need the crank turned/polished and new main/rod bearings.

Sounds good, but almost every part/block I've seen come through my shop from summit ends up having to go back to a machine shop cause it was so poorly done. Tolerances waayyyy out... U vould take the chance, but you get what you pay for kinda thing. I'd hope otherwise and if someone proves me wrong i be more than happy to swallow what I said.

That's the exact block I'm about to order. I'm assuming it started life as an LQ4 truck motor. Gonna make mine a 408 as well.

to make it a 408 you just need the 408 assemply right? or do you need to have the block machined?

Hey chopper let us know how the block is! Motor **** is good too! Mic it out on the bore and the journals and let us know how it measures up!

If it came from an 07' it should be an LS2. Still.... $150?...damn!

I didnt know the year just a guess. It has a 4.06 bore if that helps. I know the junkyard guy well he called ne saied have a newer vetter that was hit by a semi in the rear and some one had it before them and took off the heads and intake. Ao if i get heads and intake im ready to roll. Bore looks good had low miles. Are they forged blocks?

Thats an ls3. Iys a 4.065 bore x 3.622 stroke. Not forged.
Thats a hell of a deal!
Best price ive got so far is 2010 6.0 ly6 longblock for 300$. Had maybe 500miles.

Not new has been in the jegs catalog for about two years. Virgin 6.0 blocks for about $700

We have a race engine machine shop in house and I know the that any "finished" block such as this that a customer brings in from an assembly line type of machine shop usually just doesnt cut it for us. The best way is to have each cylinder honed specifically to fit the pistons. Im not saying this block is ****, but its nothing magical at all.
