Aluminum block...to...iron block.........who has done it? Need opinions.
I want to go iron block in my single turbo set-up.
Its a 100% street car, will never see a drag track. Roll runs only on the highway. Otherwise I'm going to drive it around normally.............
Some say the weight is going to be very noticeable.......some say I'll never know the difference. How can it be that far apart on the opinions?????
So....people who have actually done it, IN A STREET CAR, tell me what difference I should expect to feel?
Going from my N/A aluminum 427ci, to a GT91 turbo and a 6.0 iron block set-up. FMIC. Battery is moving to the rear end.
***and I don't mean do I feel the weight in the acceleration during a hard run, we're gonna take care of that problem, goal is 1,100 RWHP minimum.....I'm talking about handling, stopping, normal every day driving........
Thanks.

I'm not worrying about acceleration.............its handling I'm wondering about.
I'm really not thinking its gonna make any difference, but like I said I'm getting totally mixed opinions.

Handling wise, it makes little difference, although I could tell it was more nose heavy. It had a slight understeer before the swap when I was off the brakes, and it went away completely afterwards. If it's a real WS6, the spring rate is considerably higher than the standard Trans Am or Camaro, and there won't really be much difference. I was lowered on an Eibach Prokit, and the springs had to go after the motor swap.. WS6 and 1LE springs have an even higher rate than do the LT1 cars (factory iron).. so spring shouldn't be an issue. -40lbs in the front +40 lbs in the back (battery swap) is an 80lb swing, should offset the engine weight perfectly.. I have QA1 SA coilovers all around, they need a rebuild to bring them back to life, but I'm pretty slammed with a 315 (lt1) coilover and front-mount turbo.
WS6 / 1LE - 360 in-lb
SS / Z28 / TA - 291 in-lb
LT1 - 310 in-lb

I PM'ed Dr. Turbo tonight and asked about what you and Barry said to do today when we all talked. See what he recommends on a 408ci.

I just blew my stock 347 ls1 to pieces. anyways i will be buying an AES 390 from Fraser whom I talked to today, and i am impressed with the work and the fact that he called me back at 8:23 pm still getting my estimate together on what I want. A full long block, double roller, diamond pistons, steel tops, and PRC 227's, cometic gaskets, and CP double roller timing chain, and a Compstar forged crank and rod bolts, and many other goodies. gunna sell my 228r at 114 lsa too if anyone is interested. its got 6k miles on it. will come with .650 pac springs, and TSP pushrods...for 225. made my auto ws6 hit 393 bolt ons. going to go wit a brutespeed camshaft.
