how is a stock ls1 so fast? a few of my kills so far Hey guys. I just picked up my 2001 formula m6 with low miles recently. It is bone stock with a factory hurst. When I first got the car I had a few funny races against some hondas, a volvo, and a 240sx that was smoking badly.
I got my first real kill against a 240sx. He got behind me and whipped out to pass on the highway. I was in 4th running 50ish and I downshifted to 3rd as soon as I heard the turbo. We were neck and neck until I shifted into 4th at about 120. The 240 ran out of top end and I slowly walked away. I put on my turn signal and flashed the brake telling him to follow me. We turned into a local business parking lot. The guy said he had a sr20 swap with the stock turbo, full exhaust, intake, and tune @ about 250hp. He was surprised that my car was stock. After the race, I learned that my car could have easily handled a downshift to 2nd @50 and the race wouldn't have been nearly as close. This was def the best race I've had so far and it really humbles you when you are giving it all you got and you're not sure if you will manage to edge out the other car.
After that I got into a race with a 05-10 mustang gt with unknown mods. He def had at least a catback b/c is was loud as hell. We were beside each other at a stoplight and he revved a few times. We both started off slow when the light turned green and he gunned it at about 15mph. I smoked first, barked 2nd, and when it was time to grab 3rd, I had more than a bus length on him. Not bad for a car with about the same amount of hp, but 5 years older and more miles.
I had a pretty funny race with what I assume was a v6 2010+ camaro. He saw me on the 4 lane highway and started trying to race me. After a few attempts, I gave in and rolled my window down signaling for him to go. He gunned it and I proceeded to walk him like it was nothing. I would have thought a 300hp car could have put up more than a fight...even if it was a v6.
My most recent race was against a s2000. I initiated this one, and it took him a while to bite. When he finally took off, I had given up and shifted to 6th. I downshifted to 3rd @ 65 when he made the jump and he let off completely when I downshifted and started reeling him in. What a disappointment.
All in all, I love this car and I'm super surprised at how well it performs. More race stories def coming soon. I'm getting ready to drop 1500 into this baby next week to wake it up a little. =]

Neighbor has a 02? GT, I plan on shattering his hopes and dreams lol

I was thinking tsp long tubes, ory, nice catback, lid, free mods, a dyno tune for 93 octane, and I might get a 100 shot for fun. I've got a lot to learn about nitrous before I make that decision tho. I'm not planning on h/c yet as it will be my dd for a couple of years.
And I don't even care that some guys are being harsh, I'm just enjoying a nice car that I worked for.

Congratulations on getting the car and some good kills..
Nothing like the feeling of your first performance car. A friend of mine has a sr20 swap in '90 240sx. For a stock 4cyl it runs decent. High 13s on street tires.
