Default Simple Mustang LS swap but wiring scares me

I am about to undertake my first mustang LS swap, I'm not to worried about the actual swap but the wiring might be over my head. I have a 1997 mustang with a spun bearing and just inherited a 00 Z28, its hit hard but complete and drivetrain seems fine , not to mention free. I have been turning wrenches on Fords forever but never been under the hood of a Chevy. I am very intimidated by the wiring harness swap, looking for the easiest swap possible but keeping the EFI. I am thinking about a harness from Yates EFI. 850 shipped with O2s and MAF. What is the easiest way to hookup gauges? Swap the z28 cluster? I suck with anything involving wiring. Any tips or advise will be great

I am not real sure about the mustang, but I don't think it has a BCM or cluster computer. If not I would just figure out some adapters for the oil pressure and temp guage sending units into the LS engine and reuse that much of the Ford harness then make a stand alone to run the engine itself. I used the factory sensors in my engine to make the PCM run the engine and then tapped the hole in the right head for a mechanical guage and tapped in the side of the oil pan for oil pressure. You could do something similer for the Ford sensors.

Yeah that could be my best bet. I read an article in Popular Hotrodding where they swapped the camaros instrument cluster into the mustang. Don't know if I would be capable of something like that. Trying to make a plan so I don't end up in over my head

I was quite unsure if I could do a swap in a Chevelle. I did ok, you will too, just plan and stick to it. Take your time and don't cut corners. I did and did the job twice.

I have a friend who used a psi harness it was like $500 but its very simple to hook up. I think it just required 12v power,12v ing.,a couple grounds and a couple relays for fans it has a plug for the cluster which you could wire the camaro cluster. The rest is plug and play. I personally used the camaro harness and made it stand alone for my build it was a lot of work but there is so many resources online you could find everything you need to do that. Hope this helps

The Camaro cluster into the Fox Body is getting very popular. From what I understand it is almost a direct bolt in. Most of the gage information is going to come over the serial data wire. We sell the pigtails for the cluster with a schematic if you are interested.

What year camaro cluster do people use in the fox body Mustangs? Does it require any kind of extended harness or anything like that?

Did anyone ever get the stock mustang fuel gauge sensor (intank) to work with the camaro cluster?

I'm doing the same and this is my worry aswell! Not sure I like the looks of the camaro cluster but for the price, it may be my only option.

You can use a 98-02 f-body gage cluster. There are a few differences in the 98. Regarding wiring, we sell a pigtail for the cluster with instructions.

i would go with an aftermarket efi set up and the guages are basic water temp get that from a sensor in the intake or block tach will come from after market box either msd or edlebrock leav your fuel guage alone volatge you know where that goes and your button it all up in about two hours atomic efi or fast ez efi are the easiest to install check them out for yourself but i think if the car is going to be a street car all the gm wire mess is not needed. No laptop the suport good natural power. i lean toward the atomic efi.http://video.search.yahoo.com/video/...llation+Video+...

why not use your mustang cluster sensors? The LS head has a plug in the side you can put your coolant sensor in, might have to get some brass fittings to do it. But its basically the same as if you used autometer gauges. Autometer actually makes an entire cluster for the 99+ mustang you might could adapt. Personally that camaro cluster looks like crap in there.

I'm not crazy about how it looks in that picture, but I think if you trimmed it out better and spent a little more time installing it, it would look ok.
