Default aluminum ls1 bottom end or iron 5.3 or 6L

I need to replace a hurt engine. I was looking for a 6L and I came across an Ls1 for a decent price.
Is the compression too high in the ls1
The ls1 is a little cheaper then the 6l I've found.
I'm looking for 5-600hp with room to grow later.
What to do ?

The block itself has nothing to do with the compression.
You should "WANT" to get an aluminum block. That being said you can get an aluminum 5.3 as well.

Edit: I see now it says bottom end as in you're picking it all up together. Still the LS1 is going to be your best bet. Sorry for the misread.

I'm concerned about the compression ratio. The bottom end will not get touched for a year or two. I'll be building the hurt engine I'm removing when I get the car all sorted out.
Is the alumunim just as strong as the iron blocks.
I'm coming from the LTx so the Ls stuff is new to me.

No, the iron blocks are much stronger. But if your your only looking for 500-600 hp at the flywheel, the stock bottom end ls1 should take that for a while with a good tune.

Really it has to do with the tune however I guess much past 600 your bottom end wouldn't be too happy. I guess I assumed with room to grow later you would be upgrading the bottom end? Which should be done anyways.
The block itself is easily good till 900, then past that it's hit or miss depending on what block upgrades you do.

I personally would do the LS2 block though.

Truck engine all the way. I have two 6l long blocks with about 80k on them, how far are you from Rochester NY?

If you're worried a little about compression, bolt on a set of 317 heads. It'll drop the compression a point to about 9.5
