Some changes being made this winter/spring. I have decided to go with a forged lower end l92 using wiseco 4.070 pistons, eagle 6.125 rods and stock crank for safety. I am also sticking with my prc 5.3 heads for the time being. The old stock bottom end 6.2 with a pat g 235/243cam and these heads went almost 126 mph in a 3700 pound car. Compression will be unchanged @ 11.46:1.

I have sent the heads out to Ed Curtis for a freshen up and a new matching cam. The springs were shimmed to 1.770-1.780 to achieve 160 pounds of pressure on the seat. A new valve job was also done. Ed ended up specing out a tweaked version of his hellraiser cam. (239/244 .638/.631) I also had my fast ported by him last year but never got to see the results. I will be using that on this motor as well.

The old set up made 475/436 on a mustang dyno but Ed thinks it may have been unstable over 6200 with the lsl lobes and the lower seat pressure. Im not sure what its going to do but i told Ed i wanted 10's and 130ish traps. Lets hear it!

Making small steps! The block is all square ready for the rest of the machine work.

sounds like the potential will definitely be there. if suspension and all else is tweaked and set up accordingly, it is possible. good luck, rob. :)

Thanks guys. I'll have to look for the slip but if I remembe correctly it was a 11.41 @ 126, with a terrible 1.8x 60 foot.

Sounds good! Was the old motor a stock bore L92?

Yes it was. It was actually a stock bottom end l92. This new one is using the 4.070 wiseco pistons

How much do you have invested in the new shortblock?I'm in the process of doing my shortblock now an want some insight.

It was a tad over 3000$ just for machine work. It was roughly 1100 for rods and pistons, 450 for the main and head studs, 350 ish for all the bearings, 460 for the cam. I still need a melling oil pump, rollmaster timing set, morel link bar lifters, fti .116 wall pushrods. I have been storing parts for the last year and a half for this.thing lol

Dang, what sort of machine work was required on your old block to make this build possible?

Almost seems like it would've been worth it to get an already build brand new shortblock for the same price and without the 8 month wait.

That is true, I really did not want to deal with shipping a motor from one of the vendors. These guys did a lightning motor for a friend of mine and has been excellent. I felt very comfortable going with them even if I had to pay a bit more than somewhere else.

The block was decked square, the ends squared, valley and oil pan rails slightly gone over, arp main studs installed/line honed, cnc honed with tourqe plate, race balance, rods pin fitted for correct clearance, i had the eagle rods checked for alignment and made sure the ends were round, crank needed some attention but did not need to be cut, cam bearings installed, short block assembly, file fit rings for application, it also needed a small amount of welding where the starter bolts, there was a hairline crack.

Update: I just got my melling oil pump, rollmaster timing set, and comp trunion upgrade. The morel 5290s should be here this week. Im looking at cometic head gaskets. What bore size would be better the 4.085's or the larger 4.1. I'm thinking a .040-.045 thickness would be safe. Thoughts? I should beable to get this thing rolling in the next few weeks!
