Should I buy Macs used or save for lt's?
I did a search but still undecided. I have a chance to get used Macs that have the collectors redone and comes with custom y pipe for $200. I am on a tight budget so should I go for it or save for the lt's and get a custom y pipe made. Definately gonna cost me alot more but are lt's worth the extra $ for the horsepower gain? I figure with the money saved I could get a lid and underdrive pulley. I want to have good low end also so I wonder if Macs are ok for that. Eventually I will be doing a cam in a year or so. Thanks. I am a Newbie so bear with me!

If that's all the MACs & Y are gonna set you back,
you will surely be able to get your money back out
of them later. MACs are supposed to be about good
as LTs on the high RPM end but give up a little on the
low end, less resonant scavenging. For the price
though I don't think you can beat them. In fact it
is exactly the kind of deal I'm looking for myself.
So if you decide to pass on it, hook me up....

If you get the MACs I hope you do not plan to install them yourself. They are an absolute bitch if you have never done them before. I did MACs on a T/A and a year or so later replaced them with FLPs. The FLPs just slid home in a fraction of the time!

jimmyblue I will let you know if I don't pick them.
1CAMWNDR I was going to install them myself, did you notice the power difference between MAC's and FLP's? I thought they would not be to hard to install since they are mid length.

I picked up my Mac headers and Y for 260. I like them and I am putting down decent power with them. LS1 intake, without a pully. Oh, if you install them from the top, they are EASY. I would recomend changing the plugs while you are there and they drop in even more easily. Just wiggle 'em around a little, they go in!

The macs are easy to install. They are the easiest set of headers to install on an LS1. Remove your coil packs, egr tube and valve, air lines, spark plugs, dipstick tube, and I removed my valve covers, some say they don't need to be removed but I removed mine. You can put the passenger side front o2 on the header before you put it in the car. Start to drop it down and wiggle it and turn it and eventually it will drup right in. there are some little bumps on the outside of the head, right underneath the valve covers on the exhaust port side; if you grind these down smooth it will make it alot easier and keep you from scratching the headers. They will go in either way but you will scratch off some of the paint. I did mine because I had my macs coated. The drivers side will almost fall right in, but you have to install the o2 sensor after it is on the car. I would say go for the macs, I am real happy with them and you can't beat the price, I got mine with the catted Y, LPE intake, slp maf, asp pulley, slp lid, and K&N filter for 650.

Get the MACs, thats a good deal. Who may I ask is selling them? Someone tried to sell me some awhile back but they turned out to be a scammer. MAC's arent too hard to install, just takes some time. I got ripped off, I bought mine for $400, but they were Jet Hot coated.
