Turbo 5.3 build...suggestions welcome
Hi everyone, I'm new here. Getting ready to start my first lsx build. Store this, my only experience with these engines was changing the oil and spark plugs in my '01 Tahoe with 226k mikes on the clock
Right now, my car is a silver Buick turbo T. It has a stock block v6 with a 67 mm turbo. I built the engine and tune it myself. Best et to date is 9.7 @ 139.5. That was with a 1.45 60'. Over the winter I replaced some suspension parts and now it 60's in the mid 1.3's. Haven't run the car all out yet this year.
Anyways, I am wanting to go a new route.
Today, I bought 2 5.3's.
My goal is 8.99. I am told by some ls haters that I don't have a chance in hell and I am making a mistake. I think they are wrong.
Here is my plan....please make suggestions. I came up with this from my research amd listening to a few.
-5.3
-stock crank
-k1 rods
-wiseco pistons (had awesome luck with wisecos and k1's in my Buick)
-317 heads
-96# injectors
-single 88mm turbo
-not sure on cam yet or who to talk to about this
-no concrete plans yet on headers and intake
-th400 w/ a 9.5 ptc converter
-accel gen7 dfi....I own this already and know it good...therefore I plan on using it
I'm hoping my v6 is sold here soon. Hope to have this running in a couple months.
What do you all think? Do I got a chance? Any suggestions? Race weight will be around 3500lbs.
Thanks!!

Setup sounds pretty good. Close to mine actually. I've got forged 5.3, gt4788 w race cover, th400 with neal chance converter.
I've been trying to find guys who r doing the sAme as us to get an idea of which direction to go w the smAllr details.
How much power do u think it'll make?
What turbo u have or plan to have?
What rear gear and what tire??

I'm curious too...have you had yours out yet?
Currently the car has a 3.73 gear and 10.5x28 stiff sidewall slicks. Also have used Hoosier 275 radials. For boost control, I have an innovative unit and use co2.
I've seen success with the junkyard stuff, but I would like to start with a decent short block with good pistons and rods.

Same here, junkyard stuff only gets u so far, and to build one of the 5.3s doesn't cost much.
I've got a 3.70 in mine at the moment, I am gonna try it out but figure I will have Yo go to a 3.23 or 3.08. Mine will never see the track, so I need more street friendly gear.
Haven't had it together yet, waiting on the trans from rossler, 4-6weeks and it's been a week so it'll b a few more weeks. Turbo kit is goin together now, ad I got pretty much everything else sittin here waiting
