This is a very common problem with these transmitters.
Make sure to take care with the application of heat and solder, as the components on the board will be damaged

The cars with the factory remote start were supposed to have an ideal range of 100 feet I believe

The cars with the factory remote start were supposed to have an ideal range of 100 feet I believe
Found in my owners manual:
The vehicle's doors can be locked and unlocked, and the trunk can be unlatched from about 3 feet (1 m) up to 65 feet (20 m) away with the remote keyless entry transmitter.
If your vehicle has the remote start feature you can also start your vehicle with the remote keyless entry transmitter. Your remote keyless entry transmitter, with the remote start button, provides an increased range of 195 feet (60 m) away. However, the range may be less while the vehicle is running. As a result, you may need to be closer to your vehicle to turn it off than you were to turn it on.
The max distance likely changes from platform to platform, due to differences in component placement. Hope this helps.

Saw remotes on ebay also - I need a couple replacement button pads.
There was an upgrade to the early RKE / RS systems. A search would find the bulliten.

I've got one that just opens the trunk. Took it apart and soldered it back together and there was no deference.

Sounds like the button pad is shot.
You could try this http://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=30813
Or I've seen the pads on eBay new for around $6 shipped.

Best I can figure my fob is inside a forklift in west virginia, somewhere around the maryland border.
Where is a good place to get one? I was just going to stop by the dealership and get one so that it can be reprogrammed. I need to pick up a glove box latch anyways.
