The concept of: less restriction lowers boost but makes more power
here is my set-up:
D1SC/3 core fmic
50/50 meth-water
stock tb and stock truck manifold
LQ4/317's/trucker cam/arp head studs/ls9 gaskets
pacesetters lt's/ORY/ Corsa with Magnaflow 3" exhaust
What would cause the most restriction/increase in boost that could be changed to create less boost but increase power?
I'm happy with my set-up but I wanted to get some opinions on this.

Easiest and quickest would be the manifold but there are a lot of lower flowing parts in your combo. Remember CFM is actual flow, and the "lower" restriction you speak of. The more you flow, the more power you make. If you keep the same pullies, but swap out your heads, intake and exhaust, your combo will flow more CFM but go down in boost. You'll also make more power becuase efficency will up. It all depends on how much you want to spend and what your goals are. Some have made monster power with minimal parts, others like to create a very efficient combo and see how that works.

opening up your exhaust more would drop boost and make more power. Ever think about switching to a Dual exhaust on the truck instead of the ORY necked down to a single 3" I bet swaping to a dual 3" exhaust would help
The Truck intakes flow pretty well and no realy need to swap to a bigger TB if your charge pipes are only 3" as the stock TB opening is very close to 3". (Also remember that Mightymouse has gone 8.40 on a stock LS6 intake and TB)
If you want to get into bigger work that would drop boost and make more power some ported heads and a cam change would also get your deisired results

Just to see how restrictive the exhaust is. If I disconnect the catback and ran ory open- should I see a drop in boost similar to what a better flowing exhaust would do?

im running 1 3/4 headers with 3" duals, (shitty non mandrel bent) i wonder how much mine suck.... i want quieter exhaust, basically true duals over the axle, out the back, that way the sound flows away from the car, and doesnt echo off the ground and hit the under side of the car.. Bassani makes a dual kit but they are only 2.5" per pipe(mandrel bent + over the axle with tips) and i have the 3" duals, dumped, but they look like the bends were made with a hammer. the bends look like complete ****. i wonder if the bassani would flow better than my current setup? and iike alchemist was asking....i wonder if 1 7/8'' would make a big difference also. id like to have the kooks true duals, but $1600 is outrageous for exhaust. the bassani is $900

Just an FYI - you may not pick up much from freeing up your exhaust without belting up the S/C - depends on the setup.
I run mine through the stock cat-back system. I used to have a cut-out because of the restriction. On the dyno I picked up nothing (actually lost HP on a few runs) when I opened up the cutout.
My boost dropped from 17 to 15 though.
I got rid of the cutout and just live with the higher boost/high backpressure, but I like the quiet ride.
