Default Let's play, "What's that in my oil pan?"

So I blew up my motor back in January.... cracked the ring land on #7 blah blah blah, and the new motor is almost done so I was cleaning up my oil pan. Removed the baffle and there was a little bit of sludge in the front, not much, about an 1/8 inch or less, not bad for a motor with 65,000 miles on it. As I'm cleaning it out, I discover a little peice of metal, magnetic, sitting in the sludge.

Cleaned it off and sure enough it's a tiny c-clip. Here it is next to the baffle bolt for size reference.

I have no clue what it goes to. No it's not needle bearings.

It's got to be something internal, so lifters maybe, I don't know. I'm stumped.

know if anyone tore into the car before you bought it? i feel like that had to enter with the timing cover off. it looks like a c-clip to a locking header bolt but seems way too small.

The lifter retainers are thinner and not flat. I'm not sure what it is though.

seems to small to be from lifters, possibly oil pump pressure relief valve?

I am the original owner of the car, and this is the first time the oil pump and pan have been off the car. I've done heads/cam before, a few times, and I've never dropped anything in there. Where is the oil pump pressure releif valve?

The clip really is small. To give size reference the bolt above has a 10mm head on it.

Yeah, nothing missing or different with the oil pump. Checked the lifters and they are all fine as well.

You might have had a "Friday at 5pm" motor....coulda been in there from when the pan was installed at the factory....almost looks like a clip from a throttle cable but that would have gone in and out of the motor.

The rockers are stockers, actually a combination of ls1 and ls3 style. No trunion upgrade, plus, aren't those c-clips larger?
