Default Please help, idk whats wrong with my car..

I have narrowed this down to a header gasket leak/loose headers or blown head gasket..my car is very loud from the engine bay. It's a cammed lt1 and it sounds almost like open headers from the right side of the engine..the only problem is idk if its coming from the heads or headers..its got that very loud cammed lobe sound.

Blown head gasket you are probably going to have white smoke out the exhaust, there will either be oil in the coolant, or coolant in the oil.

How much should a blown head gasket cost to fix for the lt1 I have checked for smoke and dont ever see any..also I bought the car about a month ago and it wasn't doing that until about a week after I bought it. And since then the sound has gotten louder.

Okay so I just started it. And in the dark I actually saw sparking coming from the headers! Like where they connect to the manifold! It was only on that side that is really loud...so I'm thinkin header gaskets? The oil isn't milky, the radiator isn't oily..there's no smoke coming out hmmm.

Headers are a type of exhaust manifold. You are talking about where they bolt to the cylinder head. I would say a blow exhaust manifold gasket.

The header gasket is shot. Get some good header bolts and replace the gasket. I'd would do both, but that's me. What you're seeing is the flame from combustion. Change them soon so you don't have to worry about burning a valve. Cheap easy fix

Thanks bro I appreciate it! Is that what is causing the loudness? Also there is a bit of lag in the 4-7k rpm range? Now the engine is running pretty rich so I'm guessing it needs a tune pretty bad. Could the bad tune be the issue with the lagging or this header gasket leak? It's a rebuilt cammed engine lt1 with a factory tune..(the guy I bought it from didn't tune it. I'm taking it to get tuned Saturday.

Well first off yes thats why its loud. All the exhaust is escaping instead of going through the muffler. Second the reason why is it rich is because thats an exhaust leak which is allowing unmetered air into the exhaust the o2 picks it up and says its lean so it dumps more fuel trying to correct it.

A cam will change the VE of the engine specially down low, it needs a tune.

How could you rev it to 7000? The factory fuel cut out is 5886 in 1st gear, 5805 in the other gears.

Exactly what was said. Fix the exhaust leak, then get a tune. Even a mail order will be better than none. Best thing to do would be to strap it down to the dyno and get it done that way. Let us know how it turns out!
