Default C5R longblock, never ran. How much is this thing worth/numbers?

Okay, my mom and her boyfriend called me. A guy they know passed away, and evidently he had a longblock that was never even ran, waiting to go into a car. This is what she sent me, and what I know about it.

"I still haven't found much out about the block. Schwartz Machine Co. emailed me the # to the man @ GM who actually sells them, they just machine them for GM. You'll have to look @ the pics for what all is on it, i've never heard of alot of those names on stuff."

Sounds to me like a C5R block.

What y'all think? What would be a good ballpark figure to pay for this thing? It has a carb intake on it (minus carb) with a trigger fire setup and what looks like some fancy aftermarket coils.

Sounds like a $10,000+ motor to me....I say see you can get the other party to throw out a starting price, then go from there.....bare C5r block goes for around $6,000

they're asking 10k.

Bare bones that I know: C5R block, AFR 230 heads, Callies crank and rods, Wiseco pistons. 4.125x4.000, 11-1CR.

What would be a good deal?

I'd offer them $5000 right off the bat. IF they say no, ease the price up slowly. Chances are, they don't know what they have. Yeah it's a $10k engine, but today's economy says half. Shoot, that's what everyone does to me. I get stupid offers on stuff I have for sale all day long.

thanks for doing the research, my #1!

I was doing my own this morning on google and this thread came up as first result. I joined here a while back but still using dialup @ home, so the site doesn't work well for me.

It's a done deal, we're committed now.
Thanks to everyone who contributed their knowledge and opinions. Here's a few photos, everything on motor in pics was included.

Look for the "7.0L" cast into the block behind #8 cylinder, then look for screw in freeze plugs and a rear mounted cam sensor (as a production line 7.0L block will have neither).

Im pretty sure its just a nice built up ls6 or ls2 block as the part numbers for pistons are a 4.030 bore not the C5R block bore

I'm thinking wet sleeved LS6. Look at the valley cover and see how it has the holes for knock sensors? Those covers won't fit an LS2 block, it has those little posts in the middle.

More pictures for y'all. I don't know enough to differentiate between blocks reliably. I'm hoping someone on here will be able to.

Also, evidently my mom's boyfriend is wierded out because he couldn't figure out where the coolant return was from the pics. All he can see is the inlet, or something like that.

The back of the block should have a displacement in Liters and a part number on the other side. Post the part number, someone can tell you what it is.

Yup, I can see that too. Its defintly an LS1/LS6 block...How does the OP know the piston size and part #? Did you pull the heads? I just don't see someone re-sleeving a block when the LS2/LS3/LQ blocks are out there.

Not a 10K enigne IMHO....I would get the LS3 E-rod instead.

The GM replacement engine doesnt have the displacement on it. I have one and only the casting # is there.

SINGLE PISTON-CHEVY LS1 -8CC R DOME 4.125 4125A

Brand: Wiseco Pistons
Auto Part #: 6395LA125

Looks like a 4.125 bore piston to me...

Prolly got the numbers from a build sheet. It has a rear cam sensor, so it is NOT an LS7. Could be either a C5R or a sleeved Gen III motor... The block would definitely drive the price!

It's not an LS1 block, it doesn't have the bullseyes cast in above the timing cover.
