Talking *NEW!* Short Travel Linkbar Lifter (aka Lifter ****)

Guys,

I'm hoping these will be available to everyone soon.

Limited Travel Hydraulic Race Lifter with the same travel as the short travel Comps. This is the highest end "mac daddy" set of this brand with NO needle bearings. I think this is a solid axle design, it looks like it but hard to see in there. My previous short travel lifters, um, didn't fit so well, these fit real nice.

*edited to avoid associating my many poor choices of analogies with good sponsors/sponsors to be.

yeah, maybe the best I can do is try not to damage any reputations here. just had some issues I'm real happy to get behind me, and these things are pretty different from what I had.

AFIK, Isky makes the only non needle bearing roller lifter.
The bushing material is proprietary.
Popular with the BB chev guys.
For solid roller cams.

Well, I was thinking this would be a bigger deal than this. I'm pretty stoked to have a new short travel linkbar with no needles and sick quality.

One thing is they're not real cheap. They aren't Isky and Schuebeck makes that weird solid with no axle.

I was under the impression Ed Morel actually makes the Isky's.

No secret Ron....

The company that makes them is called Johnson lifters.....a division of SEC (Specialty Engine Components).

Not a household name in performance because they used to primarily manufacture/machine alot of products for the OEM's and some of that machining/parts business got squeezed out by the overseas cheap labor (like so many other companies experienced here in the States), so they recently made a push towards the performance side of the market place.

http://www.wathomas.com/

The stuff I have received from them always looks good....very nice "fit and finish".

As Steve mentioned this is a non roller bearing lifter (no needle bearings similar to the Isky design), and I know for a fact these lifters are made in house.....not sure if they get the special solid bearing material from Isky or its their own proprietary stuff. Next time I speak with them I will try to remember to inquire about that.

Ah, the you can call me Ray, or you can call me Jay, but you don't got's to call me Johnson!...... lifters.

You young guys won't get it.

Cool, they have been around forever. I have been at this hotrodding stuff for 30 years+ and both the engine shops I deal with always use Johnson lifters.
If memory serves, they had a fire some years back and it really messed up the lifter supply for awhile!

I have been to their website.

Do ask about the bushing material. The Isky has been out for a few years now, gee time flies. Might be different due to the lower spring pressure required with hydro rollers. Or squishy rollers as they are often called.

Thanks,

Ron

Johnson asked me not to say their name. I didn't ask why. Tony is the man and can do whatever.

If you guys are interested I can post up more pics. The build quality seems very high relative to the few other items I have had in my hands and the roller just feels a little different. . .like, really very super smooth. Elegant is the word I want to use for the way they roll in your fingers. . .

Resurrecting this thread to add that these lifters apparently need a little longer pushrods. Something in the 7.65 range for mine with milled afrs and a 227r cam.

These particular lifters are not currently sold as I had a roller failure. It may have been due to some known bad parts internal to the lifter which were missed during QC, but the root cause is not known. They have quite a few in the field and mine was the only failure. RRegardles Johnson is not selling the solid roller version right now...but they were expensive.

I am running the needle bearing roller version of this same lifter and in very pleased with it. They have a second oil port that lubes the axle...I have see a few posts that Morel may be doing this soon too.

I cannot say what they cost as mine are replacements, but Mamo sells them. In my opinion they are of comparable quality to Morels but have options that Morel doesn't currently offer.
