799 vs 241 heads?
Ok so i have an 01 camaro and it has 241 heads, i found a cheap set off 799 heads off a 2007 envoy engine, wondering what kind of springs do these heads have since they come complete and how are the valves ect?? researched and it seems its the same as the 243 heads???
thanks for the help

I'd agree, the stock springs you often see as the cause of valvefloat on stock and very mild camshafts after some miles and wear are on them. I'd definitely invest a few bucks in some PAC 1218's as a minimum!

Yes, the GM head bolts cannot be re-used. new GM bolts are about $50, or the ARp bolts which are re-useable are $175.

Yes, that's basically it....you'd need to remove and replace the heads 3 times to make the ARP's pay for themselves on a mild build like this.
We've got CNC ported heads and cam combos, here. Of course you still get gains from the stock 799's going in place of your stock 241's, if you want to go that way. Going that route you'd just need bolts and gaskets to put it back together (unless you want to do cam and/or springs at the same time).

799 and 243 are same design, the 799 have rougher casts (if the heads are being ported all difference is removed)
Installing stock 799s is a good bit of work for little gain IMO. I did some mild porting to mine and milled them .010" along with completely sanding the runners to eliminate all rough casting flash. The car feels a lot better on the street but still did not pick up quite as much as I hoped.

Im debating this same scenario right now. My 241's are smooth and look aftermarket compared to these rough casting 799's. I cleaned up my 799's and now I don't see any reason why they should work better so I may just keep my 241's.

799s for sure, I put milled 799s that were not ported at all and added a 9 inch at the sametime and my numbers were 2 hp off from the 853s and 10 bolt. So I picke up what ever the 9 took out with the 799s.

If not the 799s cleaned up are better. It's not something you can "see", it is due to the runner designs which were improved for the z06 type heads.
My most noticeable change was in the lower/mid rpm range. If you have both already and the 241s aren't ported, put the 799s on.

the same reason GM has used them on 100,000's of trucks since 2005(or earlier), the 243/799 head that is; the work better, make more powah

All the Gen IV truck 4.8/5.3 have 243 or 799 now. I have even see a 2009 Gen IV 5.3L with a 243 on one side and 799 on the other this was on the same motor from GM. So they are the same castings. I assume GM may have cleaned up the car versions. The truck ones don't get the good valves or springs though.
The Gen III L33 got the 799's the other Gen III were just 5.3L heads.

You wont gain anything going from a 241 to a 799 except maybe a couple hp from the compression increase. Quite contrary to what people think. It's not worth the swap. I should know, I've done it. Then, I went from 799s to a .025 cut stock 241 head and the car felt the same or stronger then the 799s. No BS.
