Default oil coolers

my '94 caprice lt1's oil cooler is pretty different than that of a f-body....

the caprice one on the right is held in by 2 bolts instead of the whole thing being screwed on. i cant find an oil cooler delete/filter adapter but really dont want to spend the money on one anyways. I know its only $20-$40 but i dont even have that as ridiculous as it sounds. My question is, can i fill the holes that the lines go to? or is that a bad idea? or can i cut the lines where the screwdriver is and attach a hose so the oil can at least circulate?

i know im a cheap *** but trying to do this swap as cheap as possible and keep the engine as clean as possible too. I suppose yall can post links to b-body oil coolers and i'll consider it down the road but i want to know what my options are with my current oil cooler.

What are you trying to do?
The f-body and b-body blocks are the same so if you want to swap oil cooler adapters you can.

No you can't cap the holes on the b-body adapter.

Get the right bolts for the oil filter by-pass (if it has one, if not youll need the by-pass as well) and use a standard SBC filter.

The oil filter adapter on the right looks like one from an S10/4.3. It appears to be for an actual oil "cooler" that sends oil to the radiator for cooling.

The LT1 F-Body oil "cooler" actually sends coolant from the radiator to the adapter between the engine block and the oil filter.

Neither system works very well. If the car is running hot, the radiator will heat the oil, not cool it.

The factory adapter, regardless of which type, bolts to the block with two bolts. This setup is missing the threaded insert a filter would normally spin on to.

The better setup would be to scrap the factory setup and install an aftermarket system with a plate style cooler mounted in front of the radiator.

You can also eliminate the cooler totally by getting the screw in adapter for the oil filter, GM # 14081300.

96, did I get this right?

Why not? It is the same block.

Far as "deleting the cooler" and your budgetary restraints how about slapping the f-body cooler on and just not bothering with the water plumbing???

Or you could put an old school gen 1 filter adapter on if your exhaust clears.

You can go one step better and using the above block adapter, incorporate a remote mounted oil filter, which can be larger than stock.

If you use the screw in adapter, you can then use a spin on adapter like this and do the cooler and remote filter:

i cannot use a screw on adapter. theres nothing to screw onto! if you look at my b-body cooler, its held in by 2 bolts! ill get a pic of the block later.

This is a gen 1 and big block style.
I have used this on an LT1 block.

There is also an adapter much like the b-body cooler one posted here but without the cooler line ports. Used on some b-bodies and I believe the Vette.

That's correct. When GM used a bolt on adapter, this part was left out:

That was also the case on my '94 Camaro. I bought a GM oil filter adapter before I actually removed the cooler, but after it was removed, there was already an adapter on the car. All I needed were two bolts to replace the two studs that secured the adapter to the block when used in conjunction with the oil cooler. I got them at my local dealer and I want to say they were around 50 cents to a buck, perhaps a bit more.

You need this
http://m.summitracing.com/parts/sme-2015
Or this
http://m.summitracing.com/parts/ses-3-60-08-900
Stock f body filter fits (k&n hp 2002) as well as a k&n hp 3002 equivalent.

Unless you have the stock one as stated above and just need yo replace the bolts.

If this is the factory style oil cooler that came with the '94 F-Body, you can cap it at the radiator & waterpump fitting.

The b-body one you could loop but not cap.

The f-body one you would not even need to cap the coolant ports at the cooler just at the cooling system ends.

Was no oil filter adapter used in conjunction with the oil coolers on the b-body cars? When I removed my oil cooler, there was already an adapter on the block similar, or perhaps identical, to the one in the second Summit link that fazz posted. I just had to replace two studs that were holding it to the block with bolts that I got from the dealer. I bought an adapter from a dealer, which looks very much like the one in the second Summit link, but I did not need it.

The b-bodies used an offset adapter like the OP posted in his first post. There were two available one with and one withOUT the cooler line hookup. The one withOUT the hookup looked pretty much the same though was maybe a little shorter.
The b-bodies got dual cat right away with the LT1 in 94 and the driver's side cat sits pretty close so the oil filter got offset tight to the pan.
