Default Cam for 243's?

My car has the PRC Stage 1 243's on it. Which I don't think are much over stock castings.

What would be a good cam choice for this thing? It is a A4, 3200 stall, 9" with 3.70 gear.

It has a Torquer V3 in it now, but I'm not happy with it. It made 370/350 with it.

TIA

Who tuned it and what kind of trap speed are you running? Mildly worked 243's with a TV3 and a LS6 or better intake "should" make a bunch more power than that.

Are you not happy with the "dyno numbers" or the performance? I say that because DYNO #s mean nothing! The important and really should be the only thing that matters is the BUTT dyno.

I don't really have any valid track data. Quick back ground on the car. I bought it as is. It has a good A4 in it and had a Yank PY3600 stall (which is designed for a LOT of N20 or boost) The previous owner was building a Procharged engine for the car and had set the rest of the car up around that. SO, with that converter and the stockish motor didn't agree.

I'm taking it to Vengeance Racing tomorrow to see if they can straighten it out.

No, I care nothing about dyno numbers. Only ET and MPH. It has to be retuned regardless cause the shift points are WAY off on the trans.

I guess I was expecting a little much from the car. I was comparing it to my buddies TA which is a H/C/I car that runs a LOT better lol.

Here are the details on his car. I guess his heads must be a lot better than mine.
His cam is smaller and this car runs 7.40's 1/8 mile and 11.60's @ 116 1/4

PRC stage 2.5 5.3L heads
Comp custom grind .230/.232 .591/.595 112+2
PRC custom race series dual spring kit
Manley 5/16X7.4 pushrods
LS6 intake w/28.8lb injectors
ASP Crank Pulley
Whisper Lid
Ported TB
WS6 Lower Airbox
ASCD WS6 Ram Air Hood
FRA mod
Dyno-tuned with LS1Edit

Exhaust

Mac 1 3/4" headers w/ORYP
Borla Cat-back
Qtec Electronic Cutout

Drivetrain

Pro-Built 4L60E
TransGo shift kit
Yank ST3500 stall
B&M Supercooler
Moser 12 Bolt w/3.42s

His cam is similar to my F-13 cam. I think you don't have enough stall for that Tv3 you have now. A 4k Yank would be a big help and maybe a set of Stg II LS6 heads as well. Of course a good tune along with it .

Numbers dont seem to crazy off for this particular combination along with having a 9inch which is going to soak up some power as well. So before you write it off I would take it to the track and gather some data, because we all know dyno numbers can vary a great bit depending on what dyno your on. Another question is was the converter locked up on the dyno? Regardless this particular combo should run very well. Feel free to give us a call, I would be happy to go over your setup, and see what what changes could be made to improve it.

Thanks.

I'm going to Vengeance for a tune tomorrow, hoping they can get the shifting straightened out (right now it doesn't shift until 3K RPM's in each gear) Long as all goes well, it will go to the track next Friday night.

Aaron, do you guys still offer the PRC 2.5 5.3 heads? Didn't see them on the site today.

I run an xer273 comp cam (224/230 .580 114) and it has great street manners with a pcmforless mail tune...I run ls6 topend and I'm hittin low 12s, with that converter you might be able to hit 11s if you have all bolt ons and supporting mods...

I feel you should making some good power with your combo.those are good heads, way better then stock gm castings..how many miles on the heads ?vengeance racing should be able to get some more power out of it.do a leak down test to make sure the valves are seating completely and sealing.check the wear pattern on the valve stems to make sure your valve train geometry is correct.
