So I make a habit of trolling craigslist for deals. Tonight I'm browsing when I see an ad for a 96 Camaro parts car. I open it, read the story about taking a corner to fast, then I scroll down to the picture and couldn't believe my eyes. It was my old car. I then became a mixture of sad and angry at the same time. Granted it's not my car anymore, I sold it, but still...
It was my first car. Got it when I was 16. The original owner took immaculate care of it. I had every document since the car was new. I babied that car. Then when I moved on to my Z28 a year ago, I had to sell it. I ended up selling to another 16 year old, who reminded me of myself 4 years earlier. Is it wrong that I'm pissed that some one else wrecked the car which they owned?
Here it is when I owned it

And here's what I saw tonight
(I put the salad shooters and stock hood back on when I sold it)

I amend my emotionally charged post.
I emailed the ad poster, just got a response, and sure enough it is my car. But he wasn't being stupid with it; he lost it in the rain. I'm still pissed, just not as much at him.

Man, I would be crushed if that were my car, you had it looking good too. But it was a V6, I don't see how he lost it in the rain unless was just being an irresponsible jackass. F-Body owners in my age group (16-21) generally beat the living shit out of these cars so I wouldn't be surprised. But, stuff happens, so who knows.

He lost control of a v6 in the rain? He was probably goofing off. Sucks you have to see your old car like that

This is why i hate selling anything to anyone i know. I dontr want to see what someone else has done to it. I know how I care for my vehicles and most people dont hold the same standard. I sold my 02 WS6 i had back in 2006 to a younger (20) person. The car was showroom quality with only 32k on it. I had some exhaust parts to give to the new owner that i had in storage when i delivered the car. I contacted him 3 weeks after the sale and he already wrecked the car. I was so upset. I feel your pain.

Wow that sucks. I am 17 with my 02 SS and some kid at my school had a 95 Z. He ran the hell out of that car. Never washed it, just didnt put any care towards it. I absolutely love driving my car, but leave the racing for the track. Losing a V6 in the rain? Possible yes, but something tells me he was speeding or something.

To kids these things are bic shavers, use them and toss 'em. I had my 02 at a car cruise last week. A guy and his young son (17 or so) came over and were fascinated. He asked If I knew if my car was original. I said, "it damn well should be. I'm the original owner, bought it new in June 2002." He was shocked. His son had wrecked one a few weeks earlier, having lost control of it in a slide.
Not just a matter of being older and wiser, but having more invested in it. When I bought the car, I paid $32,000, needed full coverage, and had payments. You learn to respect and take care of things you pay dearly for.
Today if it was $5000, or $32,000 I would take care of it. I've learned the value of respecting what I work hard to attain. Home owners call that "pride of ownership." That is a measure of maturity. That and the fully developed frontal lobe.

Yep......you feel like the rest of us when we loose an old car.
I actually traded in my old 04 STi and found out who bought it and kept in contact about 8 months later I found out the guy drove it with meth and cashed it, needless to say it went up in a fiery bomb. Sad, but a fact of life that powerful cars get wrecked....responsible or not.

Anytime im in the camaro im driving like a grand ma unless i see nice open roads.

I'm 18 and have had my 00 SS sence I was 16. Man I love it. Just finished putting in a 390ci lq4 with cam and put all new exhaust on. I think the problem is allot of kids these days just don't know the value of a dollar because their parents by them everything. I paid for my car my self at 16 and paid for everything I put into my car. I have had zero tickets so far because I'm not stupid. I think the problem is the value of a dollar my self. I plan on keeping my car for life and would one day like to pass it on to my son when I have one. But u can be damn sure he will learn the value of a dollar before he gets it lol

My 92 RS and my 95 Z28 were both totaled within 3 weeks of me selling them lol... i was the 2nd owner on both.. they were like new. The 92 RS was bought by a 31 year old chick, and blew a red light and completely rocked it. The 95 Z28 was totaled by a 19 year old kid who took out a pole while drinking. I know the feeling, cars you babied and took care of for YEARS are toast.
Sold my Pontiac GTP to some guy. Car was decent, not immaculate (bought it that way). I saw it a few months later. The car was TRASHED, dents in the doors, bent up fenders, sounded like it had a horrible exhaust leak, the BRAND NEW tires on the front were toast. I was heart broken.. I had put a ton of time into that car to make it my daily. Sold it for a loss of about 700$ when I found my Buick to buy. Oh and, I happen to be 17. Have yet to have any issues while driving in this car. When i first bought it, I went into a parking lot during a rain storm and fooled around till I got a hang of controlling it under spin. Hasn't failed me yet. I believe that practice to actually have saved me a couple months ago. I was driving when a car cut out in front of me on a side street. I swerved to miss it (at 50MPH in the rain) and ended up in a tail slide. I was able to correct it. Some kids just don't have the common sense required to own a powerful car. I know most of my friends would destroy my car pretty easily. I don't let any one of them drive it.

When I was 16 my dad made it a point to take me out and teach me how to drive and correct sliding in the rain and snow. It came in handy a few times over the 7 years since then. I'll definitely be doing the same thing when I have kids someday.
And to the OP, it's a shame to see it, but it's true that there isn't any respect with a lot of new drivers. I've still seen a rare few who take some pride in their cars and driving though, so hope isn't completely lost yet. All my previous cars were traded in at dealers out of state so far, so I haven't seen them on the road or scrap yards yet.

I agree with the statement that kids my age (17+) don't understand the value of the dollar. I worked my ass off to afford to buy my car, buy stuff for my car and now I'm working my ass off painting my car. if I sold to learn that someone totaled it I would be devastated to say the least. Its too bad that he crashed it but hey, it could've happened to anyone

Yup, that statement hits the nail on the head. The car I posted in OP was my first car. I saved my money starting when I was 14 to buy it. Never beat on it, and only one close call. (I tried to go out in the snow, ended up doing donuts on the road in front of my driveway).

I truly think he was simply scared of it. My wife drove my kid to school with it quite a few times and it was the straightest driving faster car I have ever owned...Point it down track, floor it, shift 2 times and let off the gas, collect another 10.20 time slip, haha...was almost boring.
He raced it one time and then took it apart because some know it all said the engine had a broken crankshaft, which wound up being a defective balancer wobbling, lol. He has done that with at least a half dozen nice cars. I know he didn't make any money on my old car....Heck, he sold me back the $2200 tranny and converter for $300, lol.

That sounds like a really cool car. F/I, N/A, or N20? Some people just can't handle the power of these cars, which was my point. A kid would kill themselves in my car. It is VERY spin happy at almost any speed if you nail it. I plan to solve all that with a brand new rear suspension set-up and some good tires. Maybe the guy had a few close calls on the street and figured its too fast for himself, so its too fast for anyone haha.

I don't understand why everyone is bitching...
If you loved the cars that much, then why did you sell them? You have no right to be pissed because someone destroyed THEIR property. All of your "sweat equity" was lost the second you took the cash and let them drive away... Get over it.

I'm 22 now, but I bought my TA when I was 16. Yes, I drive the shit out of my car, that's what I bought it for. It's not a show car. I've put ~90k miles and she's still running strong at 175k miles. :)
I wouldn't really be mad if somebody else wrecked it if I sold it. It's there loss not mine since I wouldn't be the owner anymore.

totally understand man. i sold my 95 trans am a few months back and saw the guy i sold it too plus the car at a car show a few days ago. i could have killed this man. tore it apart and built it back like a blind man. im only 18 and even driving my 95 trans am up to school made me feel like a million bucks. the only thing that saved me was realizing hey hold on at least the bird i have now beats the hell out of that

LOL @the replies. When I was 22 I sold my 69 Camaro to a 40 year old that wrecked it - totally wrecked it -twice! I have no idea how he got the money to fix it it twice but he did. Age doesn't matter too much, posers are just posers.

Just because I disagree, I'm an ass? OK. Thanks for your input. It means a lot. :eyes:
And it has happened, wiseguy... It didn't bother me. I sold the car, and used the money to buy something else.
Bottom line- It is completely retarded for people to think that they have some sort of claim over a car after they sold it. News flash, you're TRANSFERRING OWNERSHIP. It doesn't matter if the new owner decides that he wants to drop the thing out of a plane... It's his or her prerogative.

Happend to me a few months ago when i saw my old mustang,i was heart broken when i saw how bad of shape it was in.the guy that bought it from the guy i sold it to pretty much stripped the car down, put a big goofy ass wing on the back, clear tail lights and all that kind of crap, i told the kid man this use to be such a nice car, he said thanks, thinking i was telling him nice car, i said no it use to be a nice car lol, he sold the procharger to do a turbo and all that, it just really upset me, i just shook my head, when i went home i looked at the pics and said damn, it was a 94 gt with the saleen kit/side exhaust/built motor with a procharger/18 inch fr500 rims and tons more, honest if it was how it was when i sold it i would have bought it back, people just dont take care of crap anymore, needless to say i know how you feel, that car mise well of been totaled

Roninsonic, you are an ass, yes we sold the cars, sometime shit happens and have to sell or just wanna jump into something different, when you put so much money /hard work/ into something its always hard to let it go, makes ya think of the good times you had in that car, honest that sounds like a comment from someone that doesnt understand how it is, yes the car was no longer mine but when ya build a hell of a ride and see it all fd up for some i guess its just hard to take in.maybe when ya grow up ya will understand but posting comments like that it could be a very long time before that happens,

After drinking my coffee and re-reading my posts, I'll agree I could have phrased what I had to say a little better... Bear with me. My ship is underway, and the lack of sleep, whiskey, or a woman in a warm bed tends to make me a little cranky.
What I was trying to get at is that I don't see the point of getting angry after seeing what someone else did to something that used to be mine. I'll be the first to admit to screening a potential owner before selling them a car and sending them home because they're retarded... But once the money's in my hand, my stake in the car is gone... That's just the way I see it. Bob, as far as the girlfriend analogy... If I break up with a girl, then a year later I see her with another dude and she's gone to shit, I'm pretty sure I'll just look at my new girlfriend and think, "Whew! Damn, but I dodged a bullet there!" :P

When you have feelings for a certain car I can understand that. Guy that bought my old car busted a taillight and now it rides taped up, sucks for the car sure. What has to be realized is that more than half if not 3/4 of 4th gens are 16-18 years old which you can bet that a least half of those cars will be wrecked and driven into dirt. Heck I see a Black 98-02 Formula running around my town w/ both sides wrecked, broken head light motors, and always dirty. All you can think is poor car for having a retard owner.

Sadly 4th-gen F-bodies are the cars that kids my age can buy and just beat the shit out of. Its just like in the 70's during the muscle car era, 4th gen f-bodies are like the nova and duster of the 70s. Just my thought

A guy in my neighborhood had an 06 Brazen Orange Metallic GTO that he kept in the garage at all times when it wasn't being driven. Never saw rain and the paint was beautiful. He sold it to this kid Josh which was like 20 at the time and he ended up totaling it. If anyone here heard about the orange GTO that ran from police in Ocean city a year or two back and lost control running into a pole...well that was the kid. http://www.mdcoastdispatch.com/articles/2010/06/04/Daily-Buzz/Friday-June-4-High-Speed-Chase-In-Resort-Leads-To-Drugs-Weapons
