Does anybody but me think K&N filters are not all that great? I put a SLP air box lid on my 2000 SS (I admit that it does not sit that well) on my car, and installed a K&N filter and my gas mileage went down about a mile a gallon. Does anybody think it might the filter or the new lid?

I was at the track and had no improvements in ET or MPH between the stock paper filter and the K&N filter. Never noticed a diffrence in gas mileage though.

probably your foot! I know that I have a lead foot. If you love hearing your exhaust you will be keeping your foot on the gas all of the time. If your worried about gas mileage, drive like you have an egg under the pedal. Anyways for the K&N, they are questionable. Most dynos have showed that the hp increase was nothing. Also, you have to worry about the oil on the M.A.F.(most likely excessive oiling though.) But hell, I still got one

i just got the holley powershot filter, and it is much better quality than the k&n one.. it doesnt have a little gasket to seal either, doesnt have as many little pleats that are usually all jammed together alot of times on k&ns , instead it has big pleats and its pretty rigid strong quality feeling. It also has a lifetime warranty and its about 5 bucks cheaper.

If you do a search on "K&N" you will see tons of information regarding the K&N filter.
Some like it and some just prefer the orginal paper filter.

I didn't get one as performance upgrade. I got it for the convenience of not having to replace the filter as often. If I got any performance gains, great.

Did Holley stop making the PowerShot air filter?
I can't find it on www.jegs.com (where I bought it before) or on Holley's website (www.holley.com).

I also recommend the Holley. Its been said that the Holley's oil is safer on the electronics than the K&N's oil. The Holley also appears to be better made and fits better (no extra seals or adapters).

Summit Racing has it too.

There is another link on the PCV Catch Can........ is there some connection with this discussion on "oil" soaked air filters and this part?

Nope, thats another topic. The "oil" we are taking about is the oil that is used on the cotton base air filters. The filters come pre-oiled and you can get a another bottle to re-oil the filter after you wash it during regular maintenance.

Isn't this "oil" used on this cotton filter, right at the air intake to the engine and isn't this also where the PCV line terminates into?
