Default I was just thinking

Why doesn't F.A.S.T make a plastic Lt1 or lt4 intake for us, I mean there isnt a real aftermarket intake for us they could make a killing I think. Someone should suggest it to them lol

AFR makes a composite SBC single plane that I thought about getting, but it would be big money to port and set up to match my maxed out supervic that wouldn't really be justified.

Since I imagine you cant drill on its base to convert it, you would need to have your heads converted to SBC bolt pattern.

Wouldn't be financially feasible to invest in an LT1 composite intake since ours is good enough for most cars, and those who need more usually just convert an SBC intake.

Yea true.. but it wuld be nice to run a 102tb like the ls's and have something light weight ya know

ya well not for us. Thats why we have to convert to sbc intakes or run what we brung! lol

Very little chance that any company would invest in new LT1 specific castings. After the aftermarket block fell through it keeps the LT1 rather limited in the displacement category.

You really expect a company to invest a few hundred thousand dollars in r&d and molds into an intake manifold that they would be lucky to sell 100 of?

Hhmm yea lol.. Thats the purpose of a company to take risk lol im sure they.can afford it with all the lsx they are selling

The LT1 community is bigger then ls1tech.com.

Edlebrocks intake is trash and I'm sure they have sold thousands of them. One actually worth something would surely sell a lot. Its an easy mod that even the bolt on crowd who don't like digging into their engines would do, and sadly if it just looks cool under the hood people will buy it whether or not it performs.

The Edelbrock sells because it has a NAME that has been a part of hotrodding as long as the smallblock Chevy has been around or actually longer I believe.

Few years ago a guy was all gunho on this promising a prototype and all and the project seems to have disappeared.

You can epoxy or coat your intake to keep the charge cooler.

IMO the biggest hurdle is the lack of clearance offered by the f-body. Lingenfelter was selling modified Accel super ram intakes for the b-bodies, a company called I think First Fuel Injection here in Wisconsin makes a LT1 TPI style intake again been used on some b-bodies.

In the end though I think Lingenfelter himself summed it up well when he said something about how the stock intake works better than it should. So in the end most of this intake swap stuff is all benchracing. Several of the guys who have done the gen 1 intake swaps have openly regretted it.

This was from Lingenfelter himself:

"It's apparent that the LT1 intake was seriously limited in its design by the Camaro and Firebird styling to the extent that Chevrolet engine designers were not allowed the freedom to create the manifold they perhaps would have preferred."

That was from his book published back in '96. Who knows what kind of intake LT1s would have received if the designers were not so 'limited'.

I wouldn't call 500-600fwhp through a stock intake "limited," per se, even if it came from Mr. Lingenfelter's book.

LT1 intakes, with healthy camshafts, have poor fuel distribution at low/mid rpms. They would be much better served with an LS style intake. But I know, woulda/coulda/shoulda.

IMO, it's the heat soak issue that's the bigger downside (along with the much heavier weight of it). My LS car is much less negatively affected by hot summer driving/idling than the LT1 is.

Try holding your hand on a LS intake vs a LT intake after 100 miles driving...lol

Coatings can help with the heat thing.

Far as the Lingenfelter quote that supports what I said about the f-body being the limiting factor but if you dig around you will find a quote by him about how it still does work "better than it should" Not that you want to see a quote like that because a blind wish for someplace to misspend money is all most guys want.

well if intake air temps are so hot and a plastic intake like the lsx cars have would help keep the heat soak down then why not just make a plastic version of the ltx intake? that would probably be easy to make, wouldnt break the bank and would prolly gain us some horsepower.... or am i just crazy?
