If you are currently running stock seats I would probably swap them for some hardened ones at the least.

I am unsure of the labor rates but you can do the work yourself in a couple hours if you have them off the engine. Get a spring compression tool like https://ls1tech.com/forums/tools-fab...available.html and get to it. You might want to get some replacement seals and locks for good measure though. If you have never worked a head, read this write up on a cam swap it has some good details on working with the springs.

$250 a head is absurd. Set up from a good head guy is around $100-$150 a pair

Awesome. Let us know how it goes. I will be ordering one of those next month when I do a cam swap and will be changing my springs while the heads are still on the car.
