Gears & Axles - MWC 9" with Strange axles Need some advice if this is proper with pics

I am chasing a popping in the rear while turning after a few months of sitting while getting upgrades. Car has a 3.5 gear with a 35 spline spool. I have the rear apart and it looks weird on the axle bearings as if a ring has rode onto the bearing. I have tried to look online but haven't found anything on this. The bearing moves up and down on the sleeve about 3/16's of a inch. The wedding ring is tight against everything but I don't think that this setup is right.

Any thoughts?

Hello out there.

As long as the inner race of the bearing is pressed all the way against the black spacer, and the wedding ring(bearing retainer) is pressed all the way up against the inner bearing race then everything is ok with the assembly. It looks as if it is all done correct according to the pics. It is normal for the rollers to have some movement in it's unassembled state.

Eric.

That washer on the bottom rode onto the bearings and grooved them.

The washer was riding on the rollers it looks like.

I have looked at this several times and have no understanding of what you're trying to say. Can you label your pics or something?

What you are calling a washer is the inner race flange...its broken. Are you using a spool with sticky radials?

I am running a spool and a DR.

That does not look like the bearing inner race. It is big enough to ride onto the bearing cage. I'm talking to a guy at Strange Engineering now but looking for other opinions aswell.

Your right, looks like its supposed to be part of the cage Bearing picture (http://inlinethumb42.webshots.com/46505/2548068360065608932S600x600Q85.jpg)

I have heard of a few people using a spool and DR's on the street complain of breaking bearings, the sidewall is not soft enough to absorb the bind.

That is the pic I was looking for. So that piece should be attached to the cage then correct?

Looks like...can't tell if its pressed on, cast in or fused. I did not inspect mine that close when I installed them but I would guess it should not contact the rollers.

Did you get the new units yet?

Got the bearings in. Should have it together next week. Waiting on a backing plate to get here now.

Pretty sure the noise was just my LCAs being rod ends with the spool.

Well I got the new bearings in and welded in the tabs for the ARB and after that the noise is gone. I am pretty sure that Eric@MWC was correct in the fact that it was the LCA's rattling back and forth but I wanted to be positive that it was that as I have to much money tied up in this thing.

Ski I pm'd you the number.
