Default Best cam for bolt-on and stock heads

I'm sure this has been debated before, but what is the best cam for a full bolt-on car with stock heads and a T-56. The car is not a daily driver so losing a bit of streetability isn't a huge issue.

This is debateable though. It depends on what YOU want the car to do. You can throw cams at it all day long but what do you WANT? Do you want it to be an HP monster? TQ Monster? Or do you want it to perform at the track? You can have a cam that puts out high numbers but doesnt perform very well...OR you can sacrifice a few ponies and have a cam that beats other bigger cams in the same setup. It just depends on what exactly YOU want.

Not to be that "Hotcam guy", but if you're on a budget you can't go wrong with the hotcam kit

Damn I wanted to be that guy, bought my hotcam for $50 used and 1.6 RR for $90

You can do it dirt cheap.

Yep and if you can't find a deal like that you can just go to Jegs or Summit, I think their kit is $500...tach on a tune and some supporting gaskets and you're up to about 700-800. Most cam swaps on LT1's usually run a little over 1000 so you're saving a good amount of money

Well, I will run mostly on the street so a good torque curve is probably what I need. I'm not worried about dyno numbers. I just want the cam which would work best with my application for the street and put down good numbers at the track. I would like to shift around 6000-6200rpm to be safe on the stock shortblock. I was looking at something like the Comp XFI 466 cam.

Lunati voodoo 60121 is a great choice for your goals and it's got a newer lobe design than the CC503 or Hotcam. I had one in my 6spd cam only setup....it was more fun to drive with 4.10's though. Hardly any loss of low end torque and pulls hard to 6200 RPM.

I've heard good things about the voodoo. A friend of mine loves his. I'm stuck between the comp xfi 466 and voodoo 60121. I've always ran comp, so it's a hard choice. lol

My first cam was the comp 502 and loved it. Sounded awesome, pulled hard everywhere. Car ran 12.4's at 110 through an a4...

That's a great time. Do you think the more aggressive XFI cam would perform slightly better? I think a 12.4 is hard to beat with just a cam and bolt ons!

I too have a comp 502 and I really like the it. Car has headers 1.6 roller rockers kits of stuff but the power curve is great really power everywhere. Car made 348rwhp on the dyno m6 97 camaro. I drive it as much as I can not my daily driver but I really enjoy it. Take wife to dinner in it cruse around sounds great doesn't surge too much at all. It's done pulling about 6k so it's safe on a stock short block just a good all around cam. I decided on it over a hot cam because it is a little heaver on the exhaust side. Not much but enough to make a difference.

Mine made power to 6200, shifted at 6400.

Not sure really... I moved to a 230/236 cam after that and the car ran 12.0's, but i took my mac mids off and went with Jet hot LT's at the same time... I liked the "502" cam much better though, the torque was awesome

I think you've convinced me to go with the 502. I wish someone had experience with the XFI though as a comparison. I think it will be hard to beat the 502.

I have a set of 1.6 Non-self-aligning 3/8" stud rockers. I am going to buy guide plates. Would I need anything other than that? My friend said his fit without aftermarket valve covers.
