Default So what kinda e.t would i leave on the table if i stayed t-56

If i kept my "STOCK" t-56 and ran my 6.0 front mount build at a goal of 700 hp... how much time will i lose due to shifting and losing boost?

What im asking is, is it worth it to swap a 4l80e with a good stall in to run consistently and possibly quite faster...

Well school me guys

I don't loose boost in between shifts, just buy a n2mb wot box and wire it in! With stock shocks and some cheapo lcas I was able to be in the 1.5x 60's. Once I put some afcos on my car and strange coilovers up front I am consistently in the 1.40-1.45 range. It is also important to have a good gear set in the car I have 4.30's now and that helps alot with consistency if you have a tall gear in it it will be much more temperamental off the line. I expect my 60's to get better with my turbo set up since I should have more power off the line. Time will tell how hard I can get my 2 step to hit.

just for reference my car went the 1.40 on a 150 shot 10.06@136mph on a t56.

do you want a more street oriented car or more of a track car is the first question that needs to be answered. if you want to keep it more of a street car then i would leave the t56 in it. I am not boosted but i swapped to a rmvb th400 last year and it really killed streetability and fun factor on the street. its really kind of a hassle tp drive on the street now, but i was going for more of a "race car" than a "street car.

gonna be more of a street car however i drive on the street like i do at the track... WFO...However i wouldnt go th350 or th400... i need a overdrive...

My t-56 is bone stock... and i still have a ten bolt... yea i know i need to change that asap...

Maybe i should look into building the t56 myself to hold 1xxx or so since i now my goal of 700hp wont be enough for me in two weeks of driving the thing lol...

the ten bolt... well thats a whole different topic...

And i am looking into that wot box

I would have to disagree on that one, I like rowing gears and that is about the only reason I have the 6 speed. If you get a tight stall it wont drive bad, my friends turbo truck(th400) is about the easiest most street friendly thing to drive if anything the converter helps tame a big cam and with a 4l80 you will be good to go. The only draw back is it is a pretty heavy trans.

You would be better off with a 6060. Much better base to build off of.

the t56 is a pretty heavy trans to lollololol.... I almost didn't believe how heavy it is compared to a t-5 or even half the automatic transmissons I've dealt with...

I just don't wanna sink x$'s into the trans only to break it anyway...

id love to keep the 56 but I don't wanna spend more on it than I did the car...

Keep your 6 speed lol. I now cruise on the highway at 3k bearly doing like 56mph on 26" tall tires. I'm being nice to my new to me jy 6.0. I use to drive on the highway at 65-70mph at 3400-3600 rpm's with my 28" m/t's with my ls1. BUZZ KILL compared 75mph at 2k ish with my 6 speed. I do miss it lol but the price you pay to run with higher hp stick cars from a roll.

the t56 will prob last you a long time if you aren't going to beat on it at the track every weekend.

Auto ftw, put two turbo cars with the exact same setup except a 6 speed and an auto against each otehr and the auto will win 9/10.

Once you get into the higher Hp range the more an auto shines. If you drive a turbo ls like you do at the track you will be dead or in jail in no time. **** starts to happen pretty quick in that 700 rwhp + range. T56 wont live too long being wot shifted unless you get it face plated and upgraded. There is a guy on here with a fox body who banged the gears pretty quick, he was running mid 10s with the 6 speed. He swapped to an auto and picked up about a full second.

Dealing with clutches and broken gears isn't fun. No thanks. I'll take a nice converter and a 1.80 PowerGlide for the same money any day. Throw some long gears in there and it won't suck to drive on the highway. If you need OD go to a 4L80E. But auto FTW. Driving a turbo V8 with an auto is way more fun than a T56 IMO and this comes from someone who was a diehard manual guy.

I completely understand that 700rwhp is like driving a 400 rwhp truck on ICE...

I should state that its not every time the whole time i drive but 2 or 3 times a week i used to let my lightning sing for about 10-15 seconds... i dont completely drag race from stop light to stop light every time all the time... just every couple a days i like to let anything i drive sing... whether it be my 97 150... my lightning... my quad...

But you are right... it will still be a learning curve, thankfully im not a complete idiot when it comes to power.

I can't agree with you more. I'm a die hard manual guy, but driving a stalled boosted V8 puts a smile on my face every time

You'll never find an auto in my street car. T56 is WAY more fun to drive. Who gives a **** if you leave a couple tenths on the table for a car that wasn't built specifically for the track?

The million dollar question...
What can a stalled but otherwise stock 4l80e take as far as punishment? HP and torque wise
