Question Need tips on painting my aluminum block

Followed my standard procedures for painting steel ( cleaned the crap out of it, scotch bright, cleaned again with break cleaner, sprayed with high temp paint 3-4 light coats ) but the paint is flaking off is some places and I haven't even fired up the engine yet. Is there something I can spray on it to get it back to bare metal, and once I do how should I prep it for a respray ?
Should I had used self etching primer first ?

just regular old engine paint from the auto store. wipe the block down with 180 grit, and then wipe that off, and spray. the sandpaper will remove bullshit that wont usually come off. as far as clear that **** will just end up cracking.

I'm new on here but got a lil knowledge of painting. To do an engine right & for the paint to last I used a urethane paint with hardner

To get paint to stick to aluminum you definitely want to use a self etching primer. Clean all parts with degreaser then use a wax & grease remover prior to painting. Hope this helps. Reason why I'd recommend the urethane paint with hardner

It will stand up to any chemicals as far as oil, gas, & basically anything else used around your motor. Good luck with your painting

Will self etching primer hold up to the engine heat ?
