check your oil level, Probably low on oil. If not you have some form of restriction on the top end. In any case the motor is running out of oil at the base of the pickup tube.

This happened to me, the bearings were gone on the main bearings when this occured, same thing would happen. Mine progressivly got worse to the point when at idol oil pressure was at zero. I would check your oil filter, cut it open and check the oil as well. IF not the mains I would bet you have a bad bearing somewhere else. Not the best news.

My original engine did the same thing, and it was a chewed up thrust bearing on the crank. Check crank endplay to verify the condition of yours. Sounds like low oil though.

Someone suggested he check his oil, he never said he didn't check it. Guy cant spell though..
*assuming you oil pressure guage is correct*
Check oil, change if it isn't clean.
If that doesnt work then you'd better start disassembling to get to that oil pump, replace it!! it is a 98 car? you need a newer (00+ year model) oil pump. Replace the O-ring on the pick up tube with a new one from GM, do not use a generic o-ring.. Look up a write up how to change the oil pump.
You WILL blow your motor if it has no oil pressure. It should have over 40psi at all times, I repeat AT ALL TIMES.
Take care of it
