Default Worth getting a PS cooler for 1 rr event?

I am wondering if its worth getting a PS cooler for my 02 trans am if I am going road racing once. I want to try it at least 1 time but i doubt it will be any regularity anytime soon.

Should I even bother getting a cooler?

Regardless if its for one race, I'd get one anyway. Stock one doesn't make sense as the fluid is cooled by hot water. I bought one and located it in front of the AC condenser.

I second the "better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it" notion. Cool fluid is happy fluid.

do it anyways. it can all be completed for under $50. AND make sure the cap is on tight and for good measure wrap a hair scrunchie around the lid too. last thing you want is PS fluid dripping down on your alternator and frying it.

Harbor Freight is for people who are 1st. mechanically inclined, 2 know when somebody / business is sucking you dry for a task that you know will cost way less if you can do it yourself!

While some people don't have the skills to be a shade tree mechanic to perform DIY project then you either have to pay through the nose or have a disposible income to not care. HB has been good to me cause if you're willing to put the time in it saves you money in labor cost.

What happened to the cooler that was on the car when it came from the factory?

The stock ps cooler is not very effective...and in some instances leaks into the coolant spelling disaster if you love your car.

I would get one regardless...especially if you're rr just once. It will reduce the amt of fluid that boils over and seeps out from under the cap. If nothing else, its actually an effective mod for the street as well...so you're really not losing anything.

In 70 degree weather on gateways 1.6 mile road course I boil the powerstearing fluid in 20 mins without a cooler. I won't run it again next year with out one. I ran 4 20 min sessions and made a freaking mess of the car from the powerstearing fluid all over the place.

The Derale info should be further down the thread. It replaced the PermaCool mentioned at the start and goes in the same.
