Default Educate me on the catch cans

I looked thru JRPs FAQ for the AMW Catch Can link, but its dead.
I see a few posts and msgs about having them. I can assume the functionality of them since they're mounted inline behind the PCV, but please educate me on them and where to get one.
Thanks

where to get one= google...or look at sponsors
As far as what they do they catch any oil from going into your intake through the dirty air side, dual catch cans catch it on both clean and dirty side. You check it and dump out the oil that you find in there. Keeps the oil out of your intake and causing all sorts of nasty problems. Im still a newb at this so I am sure I missed something, but maybe not thats the general idea.

Basically what he said. The cars were designed to relieve crank case pressure by pulling from the valve covers into the intake and throttle body. As a result, oil is often sucked into the intake causing a mess. Over time it can build up. Many people say a single can is fine (for the "dirty" side) personally I run the saikou michi dual catch can (google). Lots of good reviews, and the second can is just added protection. No real gains, just a good mod for keeping the intake and throttle body clean and efficient.

I have seen people on here use a air/moisture separator from a air compressor system .

Guys, remember a catch can is like a condenser...that's it's function. It takes the heated gassy vapors, and in the can they cool and condense and the oil "falls out" collecting in the can, and the cleaner vapors return to the engine. The condensing action in the can is what makes them worth the money, but is often left out of the explanation of what they do and how they work!

Is that what the average ls1 catch can costs? Ive seen some for hemi trucks and new 5.0's running around 100 bucks.

Any advantage to the expensive ones other than looks?

Maybe thats why ive seen civics literally use waterbottles for catch cans lol

honestly the pcv system has always confused me and i've never bothered to learn about it, so this may be a stupid question, but wouldn't adding a catch can negate the need for a pcv valve?

This is exactly how they work. The same reason why those 20 dollar cans (that are just hollow cans; the equivalent to a soda can) dont do the job that well at all.

what would be a good packing material for putting in a catch can ?if you have a small tank you can drill and tap it for DIY catch can.

Most aftermarket cans will either have a check valve build in, or will use the valve valve inline to keep the airflow going the right direction like stock!

Thanks, for those running the Sakou Michi dual cans, is there enough room to clear the AC components?

Won't the LS 6 valley cover fix the problem?
