Default When to change valve springs?

AFR 205 heads with doubles.

My cam is a split custom grind (sorry no specs).

Bottom end is stock dyno is 440 RWHP.

I have not been real hard on it.

When should I change out the springs?

I was told at 20k.

Any recommendations would be helpful.

Thanks.

With that tiny amount of details, the easiest thing to tell you is to pull a few and check the install height. Brand of valve springs, ramp rate, lift, rocker ratio, etc all will effect the spring longevity.

Test and check only way to know. In general though, springs last about 25-30k without a donkey dick cam and stupid lift.

Do you have the 8017 or the 8019 AFR valve springs?

Not sure on this.

I know I have double springs.

Just looking for a general idea of when to change them out.

We don't need to over complicate it.

Pull some out get them load checked at closed and open height of the specs for the spring. If loads are low, change them out.

It will depend on valve-train weight, how aggressive the lobes your camshaft is ground on, and of course how many miles they have on them.

How much duration and lift the cam has really has less to do with it than the above mentioned details.
