2002 camaro rear end substitute
hi all
Have a big issue, I live in Dubai,
My 2002 camaro z28 has a busted rear end "nasty noise when driving"
It is not the bearings..
Been looking for 2 weeks for a used 2002 rear end but all camaros parts I found was for 99 & 98 models which my mechanic said it won't fit.
Do u know if there is any other compatable rear ends I can look for?
Or any solution to get my car running !?
Pls advice

Why wouldn't they fit? The only differences I could think of are as follows: If the car is equipped with traction control and the associated hardware and extra ABS channel. The rear end ratio: automatic, manual, V6/V8, I'm sure all are different. I'm no expert on this by any stretch, so maybe I'm clueless, but what else would be different over the model years?

rear end difference ?!
I really dont know but from what i have read around is that 02 have different ABS channel and traction control which exactly what u have said..
does this mean that if i use 98 rear end i would cancel the traction controle ??
man this is a bummer..cant wait to fix her and drive...

Copied from a site that I got to after a quick Google search.

Generally all 1993-1995 GM F-Body cars were 3 channel ABS, 1996-2002 F-Body cars can be 3 or 4 channel ABS. Normally if your car has traction control (TCS) it is 4 channel ABS. The sure fire way to check is to look at your stock rear end and if you have a sensor sticking out of the top of your pumpkin with wires connected to it, then you have 3 channel ABS. If you have the wires coming out of the ends of your axle tubes, then you have 4 channel ABS.
3 Channel ABS has the reluctor ring in the pumpkin attached to the ring gear and a sensor in the top of the pumpkin and one brake line that splits to 2 going to each rear caliper.
4 Channel with TCS/ASR has reluctor rings on the axles behind the stud plate with sensors in the Backing plates and have seperate brake lines, one to each rear caliper.

98-02 Z28(and firebird LS1 powered) rearends are fully interchangeable,BUT you need to match up
-gear ratios: M6 have 3.42(GU6 code),A4 have either 2.73(GU2 code) or 3.23(GU5 code).
-ABS systems:ABS only is 3 channel(1 sensor),ABS with Traction Control is 4 channel(2 sensors)
98s' had Auburn posi
99-02 had Torsen posi

thanks cor the reply but if i am to use a 98 rear end, what should i tell my mechanic to do in order to have it fully running (i do have traction control) and have 2 blue socket wiers at end of a axel.
so main question remains, can i swap rear end with a 98 model ?? if yes, then how can i have (make sure) that 98 reR end will operate as 02 !

I am goin to my mechanic now, will suggest if he can convert the 98 rearend to 02 by removing/swapping the axel backings.. Let's hope he know how..
I asked him earlier if he can take the inside of the 98 shell and install it inside my original rear end shell it he said he has done this before on a grand cherokee but it caused a loud noise so he does not recommend it......
Let me know if ere is any ideas how to overcome this !
Mean while, I was looking into Moser 12 bolt rear ends but it's too expensive and will even be more expensive to ship it to UAE !
But I guess I just need my Z28 to run then I would upgrade to a 12 bolt rear end when I allocate a budget for it on my own time....
Let me now what u think guys..

Hey guys,
we have decided to open up the defrential pumkin and see whats wrong since i can not find any salvaged rear end for my 02 camaro..
The main gear and pinion is damaged and serrounding gears as well so i called Speedinc and checked a "Motive 3.90 GM 7.5" 10 Bolt gears w/master install kit" which will cost 275$ ps. my car is 4 speed auto, do u think 3.90 will cause much stress than 3.71 ?
i should order it within 2 days... what do u think ?
ps.my michanic will work on other gears in pumkin to rebuild it back..
