Vette motor as warranty replacement??
So my brother owns a 02 ws6 he got with 19k miles.Around 24 k he started experiencing the piston slap and took it in for a warranty replacement. After about a month,in wich time they gave him a temp motor while the crate came in from gm,he walked in friday and saw 4 techs huddled around his car,all on the phone with other techs. He saw the reciept and was told by the manager that he was getting a 04 production vette ls1.If im correct, the vette ls1 has 380 hp??is there anything in the switch that would decrease the hp??anyone else get this as a replacement?

The GM Production LS6 block has the corvette oil pan installed on it but also ships with the oil pan for the F-Body and will have to be installed in place of the vette pan. He may or may not get the LS6 heads. That is depends on what they ship. It is my understanding that they no longer produce the exact same LS1 block for todays production vehicles as the ones we have in our original cars. Todays LS1's now ship with an LS6 block.
This is what I was told from a GM tech when they had mine in for severe piston slap. They replaced the rings and pistons and had them fitted with the new coated ones for the 04 Vette, but guess what.....The slap is coming back!

I just had my block replaced with a complete LS6 from piston slap as well. I even got the old LS1 block sitting in my garage because there was no core charge on the LS6 and my extended warranty company didn't want the LS1. I think I'm going to turn it into a 383.

Well tell him he is a VERY lucky man!!! If they ever change their mind and will fix my car I will not accept the piston's only swap that some have gotten, that is just a cheap band-aid fix and most hear the slap come back after a couple hundred miles, the stock pistons are fine....it's the block (bores) that are junk!!
