Default 2002 Trans Am door is falling apart? Help

So the fiberglass outside of my door is falling off by the hinge, just the outside shell part, and the door doesn't shut right. Also the handle rattles, and feels like its been trashed. How do you fix these?

for the door handle, if it rattles whenever you go over bumps, it's probably because the lever mechanism is riveted to the door with one rivet. when i had my door panel off, i put a sheet metal screw through the plate to secure it, it's solid now with no chance of rattling.

Mine is the one on the outside of the car. Was that the same as yours? And is it just up close to the handle on the top corner?

not sure if you are talking about the interior door handle or the exterior. the pic was of the interior, my interior door handle always rattled since i got the car.

If you lift up on the end of the door, how much play is there. Its common for the fiberglass to crack around the hinges - so you should check that - and the hinges will also wear out, causing play at the hinge.

It's the exterior door handle that rattles, I can get pictures, but it just looks like any other door. I can't get a picture of the crack though. It seems to be breaking at the seam on the door towards the front end of it, by the mirror. The door feels hammered

The outer door shell is attached to the inner structure by adhesive. I'm not sure if you can have that repaired.

Couldn't you just use an adhesive to fix it?

Classic Industries has entire GM doors that you just swap the hardware over to. They are pricey though. About $900 plus paint.

same thing happened to me. i used different epoxies and adhesives and it kept separating. Last thing I used was a specific 2 part adhesive I got from "autobody products inc" which was specifically for bonding fiberglass to steel. I did this with it on the car and used a small c-clamp to hold it together overnight. If I would have had more time I would have taken the door off to get the adhesive in better and let it sit clamped together for a few days. Its been together now for a little over a year.

I had a similar issue.. My glass was cracked from the bottom of the hinge all the way around the bottom of the door.... I removed the door (car was getting painted) and removed the hinge then I ground everyhting down flat and reglassed the whole are where it had cracked. Then I sanded smooth and shot everything.. In the end it came out great I had no further issues and you couldnt even tell. The hardest part was getting the hinge back in its original location
