Default Low Alternator for Low Cost

So as the title reads im lookin to get my alt bracket lower for hood clearance and im on a budget...just had a baby so i gotta keep cost down. I have a bodydropped s10 that the 05 5.3 tahoe motor is goin in. already picked up a ls1 intake and fuelrails and a camaro waterpump. I was lookin at the kwik, speedway or dirty dingo kits but like I said the budgets is lower now so im lookin for more options...I dont have a p/s pump or alt yet so i can buy whatever is needed for what you guys suggest...any help will be appreciated.

Several of us made our own, my build topic has a picture of mine. The_Merv made one for one of his cars. The only limit is your creativity and fabrication skills.

what are my options as far as changing the oem hermonic balancer, and p/s alt bracket? Like could I find a hermonic balancer off a f-body ls1 and p/s-alt bracket off same f-body..would that all work?

You have to match the balancer to the all the other accessories as the truck, f body, and vette all have different spacing relative to the timing cover...so to answer your question yes...

Depending on what room you have, you can also keep the truck balancer and add spacers to the other accessories to bring them out from the block.

Can't use the truck alt/p/s bracket cause I have hood issues and I'm keeping stock hood for sure. That's why I was asking cause with camaro bracket will let alt clear hood. Guess yur saying I could run camaro bracket with spacer rather then getting new balancer pulley?

Your still going to have to relocate the alt, u can't use the alt. bracket it will hit the steering box. The power steering braket should work for you though.

Does anyone know how thick the spacer would have to be to use a truck balancer with a F body alt. bracket??

I think its a half inch.

The truck alternator will fit the F-body bracket.

Don't forget that you're going to have to drill the extra hole in the block (not that its hard, I did mine in the car - twice).

thats pretty much the same alternator location on australian ls1 2 and 3s, with p/steer pump above that.

australian ls2 and ls3 run a different balancer so accessories i assume are spaced differently though

Holley has a nice set of brackets that let you use a cheaper truck alt and space it to work with what ever balancer and water pump you have.

Offset from F-body to truck is 3/4". You can swap pulleys on the waterpump to use an F-body pump with truck offset. F-body alternator may be very close to your steering box. If your truck block is iron I would go with an F-body alternator as it has a rear mount for better support. The iron block doesn't have the center mounting hole so you really need the rear support bracket, IMO.
