Default cam swap checklist

I am a couple of parts away from completing my checklist to being my cam swap, parts i have: (keep in mind this is a 98 and i will be putting on 241's instead of the current 98 heads)

241 heads
brian tooley spring kit
new 7.4 pushrods
tr224 cam
ls6 oil pump
ls2 chain
ls7 lifters (dec 1)
texas speed head gasket cam swap kit (dec 1)
oil pump o ring

So, should i order new lifter trays? they are like 40 bucks are they a necessary upgrade?

Do you already have the 241s? If not why not look into some ls6 heads

Ditch the cheap plastic trays and go with a link-bar lifter.

I get what you are saying. Everyone has a budget (especially these days). I guess the way I feel about it is if your going to take such a high quality motor and build it you should put the best of the best in it. It is also cheaper than a lifter failing and having to replace the whole motor.

Man tell me about it... I had 1 lifter fail on me coat about 1500 to re fix everything waiting on my springs to complete it.. but I def agree do it right the first time save the headache later I wanted link bars but the price is out of my range for my simple build

Alright yea I get what you all are saying the other lifters are a lot of money. I would hope that lifters from an ls7 would be ok for my small cam compared to an ls7. It has the 806 or whatever in there now so I am "upgrading" to the 241's. What about my gasket kit? I am real excited to get this thing swapped in. I'll have the rest of my parts first week of December.

The 806s and 241s are similar heads don't waste the money instead get some ls6 heads you can get them cheap if you go with thinner or thicker gaskets your going to most likely need diff length prs but you have to check anyways
